In 2007, with funding from the Sunshine Lady Foundation, the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Wilmington and Communities in Schools of Cape Fear started a BackPack Program, which provides pre-prepared food to children who would normally go home to empty pantries. New Hanover County Schools have helped us identify children that could be falling through the cracks. We have worked with school counselors, social workers and teachers to provide a safety net for the children in our community.

In the 4-County area covered by the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Wilmington, we

have over 50,000 neighbors at risk of hunger. 30% of these neighbors

at risk are children!
