Dancing in O’Claire participants perform last weekend at North High School during the 13th annual Irish Dance Show produced by Janelle’s School of Irish Dance. The two-act dance show was a highlight of the O’Claire Irish Festival that also featured vendors, kids activities and raffles, with proceeds donated to the Compassion Inter-national charity.

FUN NIGHT: The Chippewa County Adult Special Olympics 33rd annual Fun Night fundraiser will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Chippewa Falls High School gym.
The event will include a basket-ball game between Chippewa adult Special Olympians and the Chippewa Falls Police Department. The Special Olympians are 32-0.
The event also will include a bake sale, concessions and a raffle.

A percentage of sales will sup-port the Volunteer Partners’ tuition assistance grant program and other ongoing hospital projects.
• • •ENVIRONMENTAL LECTURES:
The UW-River Falls history and phi-losophy department will host two free public lectures in April by William Cronon as part of the Walker D. and Helen Bryant Wyman Visiting Profes-sorship in History.
Cronon’s teaching and research focus on the environmental history, landscape history and historical geog-raphy of North America.
Cronon is the Frederick Jackson Turner Professor of History, Geog-raphy and Environmental Studies at UW-Madison, having served for more than a decade as a member of the Yale history department.
The first presentation, “A City-Country Journey: Local Land-scapes as Pathways to History,” is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the Kinnickinnic Theater in UW-River Falls’ University Center. A reception preceding the event begins at 4 p.m.
Cronon will take attendees on a driving tour from the State Capitol in Madison into the rural landscapes of southwestern Wisconsin to show the ways we can learn to see environmen-tal changes.
Cronon’s second presentation, “The Portage: Reflections on Nature, His-tory and Storytelling in the Making of an American Place,” will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at the River Falls Public Library, 140 Union St. A reception preceding the event begins at 6 p.m.
The lecture is based on the open-ing chapter of Cronon’s newest book about the history of the Wisconsin city of Portage.

and Janet L. Bryant Foundation is seeking applicants for scholarships up to $12,000 each.
Application deadline is April 15.Candidates must be postsecondary
undergraduates or high school grad-uates.
Candidates must plan to enroll or be enrolled in part-time or full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or technical school for the 2019-20 school year.
Candidates must also have graduat-ed from either Arcadia High School, Black River Falls High School, Bloom-er High School or Neillsville High School.
Preference is given to non-tradition-al students who did not go directly to college after high school.
