Guillermo "Willie" Berman is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the UMC and has worked with Volunteers in Mission teams from annual conferences in Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Ohio, Tennessee, and Iowa. His call to mission was inspired by the work of his parents (lay persons) as they received and worked with mission teams in the poor areas of Reynosa. He began sensing God's call as he saw how U.S. teams worked with the people with so much love and care, and how inactive his local church was in mission. "I felt they (U.S. teams) were doing what we (the Methodist Church of Mexico) were supposed to be doing as a church," Willie said. For several years former member Betty Bundy led groups of IITS members and Winter Texans across the border to work with Willie and his Mission. They took supplies, built casitas, and helped with other needed 2008 Mexico Mission Team with PET vehicles programs in impoverished areas around Reynosa. Our February 2 communion offering will help an important mission program not very far away. Many of us will remember when Willie Berman, coordinator for the Mexican Methodist Border Mission in Reynosa, Mexico, spoke at IITS and thanked us fo r ou r contributions to the Mission. We had a Mexican theme, viewed slides of the mission work, and sang “De Colores” and “Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore.” We even sang verses in Spanish with Leah Galvan’s leadership!

"I felt they (U.S. teams) were doing what we (the Methodist Church of Mexico) were supposed to be doing as a church," Willie said.

For several years former member Betty Bundy led groups of IITS members and Winter Texans across the border to work with Willie and his Mission. They took supplies, built casitas, and helped with other needed

Please prayerfully consider contributing to Willie and the Mexican Methodist Border Mission.

Millions of Americans have trouble sleeping! You may be one of them. Only one other living creature has as much trouble resting as we do. They are woolly, simpleminded, and slow…sheep. Sheep can’t sleep! For sheep to sleep, everything must be just right. No predators. No tension in the flock. Sheep need help. They need a shepherd to “lead them” and help them “lie down in green pastures.”

Without a shepherd, they can’t rest.

Without a shepherd, neither can we! Psalm 23:2 says, “He, (the Shepherd) makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.” Who’s the active one? Who’s in charge? The Shepherd! With our eyes on the Shepherd, we’ll get some sleep. Isaiah 26:3 reminds us of the promise, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You.” - from Max Lucado’s Traveling Light Contributed via email by Joyce Tagliaferro
