We received national and local coverage following a £4.5million three-year investment in a new citywide social prescribing service. In May, we highlighted the success of two local GP practices which have been awarded domestic abuse quality marks for the support they give to those affected. We also celebrated the fifth birthday of MindMate, our award-winning website that supports children and young people’s mental health. To help both service users and commissioners understand the benefits of personal health budgets, we launched a new film that highlights the new approach to prescribing and funding wheelchairs in Leeds. We also promoted recent significant investment in mental health crisis cafes. During the last two months, we supported a number of national campaigns with local media and case studies around mental health, diabetes, leg health, safeguarding, breastfeeding and volunteering. Finally, with hot weather finally arriving in late June, we issued guidance to help people make the most of the conditions as well as reducing potential pressure on the health system.

May

Our post sharing information about increased cases of measles in Leeds achieved the greatest levels of engagement, with 362 engagements, including 75 shares. This meant the message reached 5,061 people.

The CCG’s website activity decreased from April with visits, views and sessions all decreasing. Once more this will likely be due to website visits finding a more natural mean after the spike we saw in February linked to the formal engagement on urgent treatment centres.

As part of Breastfeeding Celebration Week mums in Leeds were encouraged to access breastfeeding groups for support across the city. This post linking to the press release on the external website saw 4597 people reached and 517 total engagements.

While page views on the CCG website went down, new visitor sessions showed a slight increase, possibly owing to the users who came to the site on the back of the breastfeeding post. The breastfeeding press release managed to make it into the top 10 most visited pages of the month with a number of people coming to our website through the Facebook promotion.

Publications - during May and June, we officially published our annual report and completed the summer edition of Engage Magazine. We also started work on our annual review, which is a more visual summary of our performance aimed at the general public. This will be published before our annual general meeting (AGM) in July. Conferences and events – we provided support for the second city wide primary care conference, which took place in June. Highlights from the day are available on our website. We have also supported preparations for the AGM. Leeds GP Confederation – we continue to provide communications and engagement support for the Confederation, including partner updates, publications, social media and the ongoing development of the website - https://www.leedsgpconfederation.org.uk We are also providing communication support for the citywide digital partnerships team. Looking out for our neighbours – We are actively involved in the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership’s regional campaign encouraging people to connect with their neighbours and reduce loneliness and social isolation. The campaign will gradually come to an end in July, when it will be evaluated. Mental health – for Mental Health Awareness Week in May, we enlisted the support of Leeds-based singer and mental health campaigner, Mirander Arieh, who drew on her own experience to encourage young people across Leeds to have compassion and acceptance for their bodies. Young people were directed to the MindMate website (https://www.mindmate.org.uk/), which has a section specifically dedicated to self-image. Safeguarding Week – in June, the team led on a citywide campaign to raise awareness amongst health care professionals of the ways in which children and vulnerable adults can be exploited. The campaign focused on child sexual and criminal exploitation, human trafficking and modern slavery, signs of which can be masked by challenging presenting behaviour. Diabetes - we supported Diabetes Week to help people know more about the condition, how it feels to live with it and encourage people to talk about it. Legs Matter - Every two hours in England, someone loses their leg because of a wound that hasn’t healed. To help people understand the importance of looking after their legs, we supported a brand new campaign ‘stand up’ to one of the UK’s biggest health challenge Breastfeeding - as part of Breastfeeding Celebration Week, we promoted the work of support groups across the city. Antimicrobial resistance – we were invited to a regional Public Health England symposium to talk about our Seriously Resistant campaign. The campaign is now being adopted by NHS Wales and NHS Sunderland CCG and we’ve also had requests for materials from NHS Calderdale CCG. This follows on from previous requests from other national partners. Summer health – we printed and distributed a summer health booklet as well as specific hayfever advice, to get people to be summer ready. In addition, we reminded people about visiting their pharmacy for common health conditions. The booklet and advice is on our website: https://www.leedsccg.nhs.uk/health/healthy-living/stay-well-this-summer/

Healthwatch Leeds report on the NHS Long Term Plan – we supported the regional engagement which fed into the report, bringing together over 1800 public responses from surveys and fifteen focus groups held across West Yorkshire and Harrogate, which targeted many people including those with mental health conditions, dementia as well as young persons, carers and faith groups. Involving You 2018-19 – we finalised and published our engagement report at the end of May. The report has been co-produced with local partners and volunteers. We shared the report widely across Leeds with patients and partners at the beginning of June and we will continue to promote it in the following months. The Patient Assurance Group (PAG) met to discuss Wetherby Mental Health Services engagement and the British Sign Language service procurement engagement. British Sign Language in primary care – we are continuing to support primary care to develop a service specification for BSL services. CCG volunteers are currently supporting eleven different commissioning steering groups, we support them through regular mentoring. Reader Group - over the last two months the group has reviewed five resources:

• Community pharmacy referral letters • Vitamin D deficit leaflet • NHS Health Check results card • Physical activity questionnaire • Medicines review service for care home residents leaflet

Engagement hub review – we shared our report at People’s Voice Group in May. The approach was well received by all members of the group and Healthwatch will lead a steering group to explore how we can work as a system to develop and provide public and staff training. In the interim, we have booked in 5 dates to deliver one of each of the training sessions up until the end of the year.

Supporting our providers – we delivered training to five staff from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT), Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust (LCH) and Leeds Cancer Programme. The training outlined statutory duties to engage and explored how we can work together to ensure local people are involved in decision making. Procurement – our volunteers are working with our team as part of a procurement process for a citywide primary care mental health service and a community chronic pain service. Patient participation groups (PPGs)

The PPG network met twice in May and June, with updates on working groups, the Big Leeds Chat, Advonet and peer support.

Three working groups have been established and meet regularly to focus on a number of areas, including PPG email addresses, awareness and promotion of PPGs and the annual PPG event.

The engagement team worked with the primary care team to deliver training to PPG members at Gibson Lane and surrounding practices.

As part of our regular visits to support PPGs to champion the voice of the wider community, we visited Whitehall Surgery in May.

PPG members attended the annual Primary Care Conference held at Elland Road Stadium in Leeds on 20 June 2019. The attendees fed back to the PPG Network meeting in June.

Wetherby mental health services – our CCG is supporting an engagement by Tees, Esk and Wear Valley (TEWV) NHS Foundation Trust looking at proposals to provide inpatient and community mental health care to working age adults and older people in Wetherby. Cancer care reviews – we are supporting the Leeds Cancer Programme to carry out an engagement to develop community cancer care reviews for patients in Leeds. The engagement will run for six weeks starting in July 2019 CCG volunteers – throughout July we will be preparing to launch our second round of recruitment for new volunteers to join the programme. We are beginning this process by convening a steering group to oversee the recruitment, involving our communications and engagement team, existing CCG volunteers and representatives from Voluntary Action Leeds and Healthwatch PPGs – we will be continuing our regular PPG visits to support them and their practice with engagement activities and holding our regular network meetings. We will also be holding or attending meetings for the Patient Assurance Group, People’s Voices Group and the Big Leeds Chat working group. The Light GP practice procurement – we will be supporting the procurement of a provider for The Light GP practice in August. Accessible Information Standard (AIS) pilot project – we are currently waiting for a Healthwatch Leeds report which aims to identify issues in regards to the implementation of the AIS across providers of healthcare services in Leeds. Once the report is published we will use the findings to review our approach. Seriously Resistant – our campaign to help tackle antimicrobial resistance will be fully underway in July and August, with a number of appearances at the city’s Breeze events. Internal communications – we’ll be carrying out a number of workshops to help staff use Workplace by Facebook. Population health management conference – we will be supporting the CCG and Leeds City Council with a national conference taking place in Leeds in September. Summer health campaign – we will be running a summer health campaign, including an event in Leeds City centre on 31 July that will feature quizzes and health tips shared on social media
