R everend Ashley Cooper was the first person to propose the idea of

having a Pan-Britannic sporting contest to foster a spirit of goodwilland understanding within the British Empire.

In 1928, a key Canadian athlete, Bobby R obinson, was given the

task of organizing the first ever Commonwealth Games. These

Games were held in 1930, in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canadaand saw the participation of 400 athletes from eleven countries.

Since then, the Commonwealth Games have been held every four

years, except for the period during the Second World War. The

Games have been known by various names such as British Empire

and Commonwealth Games which changed to British

Commonwealth Games in 1970 and assumed the current name of the

Commonwealth Games in 1978. Since 1978, they have been known

Delhi constructed a four-lane, 2.2 km underground stretch

from Lodhi R oad to trans-Yamuna, linking the Games Villageto the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and reducing travelling time

between the village and the Stadium to six minutes.

In response to concerns over the large number of trains that

pass by the Delhi metropolitan region daily, construction of

road under-bridges and over-bridges along railway lines has

 been started.

To expand road infrastructure, flyovers, cloverleaf flyovers,

and bridges have been planned to improve links for the Games
