WHYDELHI?The historic city ofDelhi will lookits best for visitors during the
XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi. One ofthe legacies of
the event will be that it will leave behind a city much more
beautiful and charming than it currently is. The colonial city-
centre and Delhis main shopping area, Connaught Place, hasbeen given a new faade and is already experiencing a
resurgence. Rajpath, the main avenue in Lutyens Delhi, is being
rejuvenated. The citys monuments, an integral part ofthe rich
heritage ofDelhis past, are being cleaned and revitalised.
New international standard signages and bus shelters will add to

ECONOMYIndia is a developing country. Focus on the word
developing as India is not yet developed. Ironically,
India is a country which is, onone hand struggling with
the problemofpoverty since the time ofindependence
while on the other hand is spending millions on the
Common wealth games.
Forty percent ofIndias population is below the poverty
line which clearly indicates that the booming Indianeconomy is still unable tofeed a majority ofits citizens.

Similar to the Olympic Torch Relay, is a relay around
the world heldprior to the beginning ofthe
Commonwealth Games.
The baton contained 71 lights on the front, representing
the 71 member nations of the Commonwealth Games
Federation. A video camera built into the front of the
baton recorded continuously as the baton traveled, and a
GPS tracker was fitted; so that the baton's location could
be viewed live on the Commonwealth Games Website.
