• In Spanish, the most common negative word is no. As an adverb negating a sentence, it always comes immediately before the verb, unless the verb is preceded by an object, in which case it comes immediately before the object.

But there are other negative words besides “no”:

• nada

• nadie

• nunca

• ninguno / ninguna / ningún

• ni

• ni…ni

These words usually come in negative/affirmative pairs:

Nada - nothingAlgo - something

~Nadie - no one

Alguien - someone

• ¿Tienes algo en la mano?

» Sí, tengo algo.

» No, no tengo nada.

• ¿Hay algo en el refrigerador?

• No, no hay nada en el refrigerador.

No me gustan nada los huevos verdes con jamón.

También is affirmative. Use it to agree with something affirmative.

Tampoco is negative. Use it to agree with something already negative.
