Assessment & Accountability

National PTA is creating Assessment Guides for each CCSS State.

– CCSS overview and what are standards– Why new assessments, why are these better,

benefits of better tests– PARCC and SBAC info (very little – we didn’t want

the focus to be on the consortia, we wanted to show state ownership)

Page 15: Common Core State Standards: An Opportunity for Progress Lee Ann J. Kendrick, M.Ed

Assessment & Accountability

– Definitions of tests being created (interim, summative, formative, etc)

– Sample test questions at the elementary, middle and high school levels

– State-specific accountability systems at the student, teacher and school levels

– What parents can expect– How parents can support their child

Page 16: Common Core State Standards: An Opportunity for Progress Lee Ann J. Kendrick, M.Ed

Assessment & Accountability– Working with each DOE to collect and verify state-

specific information– The first two states (New York and Oregon) should

be ready in the next few weeks– We are also trying to keep up with the rapidly

changing environment around assessments – the new flexibility allowances, states shifting consortia, etc.
