SB 1200: Math

SB 1200 is very specific about what changes the State Board can make:

•Redundant standards must be eliminated

•There can be only one set of standards for each grade level

• The course in Algebra I must be based on the national version of the Common Core State Standards, and therefore consistent with Appendix A

• None of the national standards can be eliminated

• Changes to the California additions are allowed

SPI recommendation and SBE action in January 2013:

•Reduced California additions K-5

•Clarified Grades 6 and 7

•Used Appendix A for Traditional and Integrated Course Sequences

• SPI recommend and SBE adopt the college and career readiness anchor standards developed by the Common Core State Standards Initiative consortium.

• The state board may also take action to resolve any technical issues

• Action in March 2013

• Adopted on November 7, 2012, by the SBE

• Aligned to the CCSS and designed to help English learners build critical knowledge and skills

• Describe key knowledge, skills, and abilities in core areas of English language development
