Back Pain

The most surprising statistic of all is that nearly 40% of back pain sufferers visited their GP for help but only 10% consulted a skilled therapist for a deep tissue (sports) massage treatment.

Do you sit with poor posture at a desk all day? Drive long distances? Have a manual labour-intensive job? Feel stressed and anxious? If so, you would benefit from a deep tissue massage.

Massage is recognised as a legitimate method for fighting back pain and The Independent (July 2011) reported that a weekly one-hour massage treatment over a 10-week period reduces pain more than medications and the effects lasted for six months.

Did you know that back pain is the the No.1 reason for absence in manual jobs in the UK and the No.2 reason for long term sickness within UK offices?

Back pain limits your activity rate and costs UK employers £624 million per year.

The NHS spends more than £1 billion a year on back pain related treatments ranging from GP consultations, hospital appointments and physiotherapy sessions.

Neck Pain & HeadachesYour neck headache can originate from a variety of musculoskeletal and neurovascular structures in your upper neck; including the joints, discs, spinal cord coverings and neck muscles. A dysfunction in these areas can trigger pain signals are then transmitted into your brain and interpreted as a headache.

Your neck and shoulder blade muscles that originate from your neck will cause pain if they are overworking, knotted or in spasm.

Some of your neck muscles overwork when protecting injured neck joints.

Other neck muscles become weak with disuse, which places further demand on your overworking muscles resulting in muscle fatigue related symptoms.

A massage therapist will help in the assessment and correction of muscle imbalances that result in neck headache.

Buttock Pain & SciaticaShooting pain, numbness, and/or tingling down one side of your lower back and into your leg or foot may be an indication you are suffering from irritation to the sciatic nerve.

Sciatica is often caused by a problem in the lower back that compresses nerve roots and sends pain signals down the back of the leg.The sciatic nerve runs from the lower back, through the buttock and down the back of each leg, passing through various muscle groups- where the nerve can be pinched due to muscle tightness.

A seasoned massage therapist may be able to provide welcome relief from leg pain caused by a problem in the back.

Sciatica is a painful condition, but you may be able to find relief with a good massage therapist.

Plantar Fascia PainDeep pain in the underside of the heel is often diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is a very common cause of heel pain in adults. With no externally visible features to highlight the condition, the pain can usually be located when the pressure is applied under the heel.

Burning, stabbing or aching pains in the heel and arch are the usual symptoms.Over use and excessive rolling in of your feet when you walk can cause inflammation in the plantar fascia ligament which runs along the bottom of the foot, especially when tears occur in the tissue.

Plantar fasciitis is most painful in the morning as the plantar fascia tightens during the night while we are asleep.

Stretching morning and evening are important in relieving and treating this condition.

Regular massage treatment is also beneficial in alleviating painful symptoms.
