Greetings Wilson Family,

I am super excited to serve as the President of The Wilson Family Reunion for the 2019-2020 term. I must say that we had a great time at the past reunion. One of my most memorable takeaways took place during the Gala when the question was asked, “What does family mean to you?” As we all know, Family is the foundation on which we exist. Family is the basis of why we show up and participate year after year, and I’m just thrilled to be a part of this journey.

I have a great team working with me and every individual is eagerly sacrificing their time and talents towards making this upcoming year just as successful as the years prior. The attendance of our youth is vital to the ongoing future of this continuing tradition. So, this year, we are asking that, as a family, we do our due diligence to participate and reach out to others, young and young at heart. That way, we’ll never forget the true tradition of family.

Our 87th Reunion Theme is “Strong like our Roots, Known for our Attributes.”

This year we will Honor the Late Ernest Wilson Clan.

Your Reunion President ~Danielle Wilson

I would like to welcome our new committee members Jon-tel Carter, Asst. Historian, Nedra Wilson and Valarie Marable (Youth Activities).

EACH ONE – REACH ONE CAMPAIGN

Competition

I would like to introduce our “Each One, Reach One Campaign”. It’s up to us to keep this reunion going. We need you to make contact with family members that you haven’t seen in years and encourage them to become actively engaged. Bring awareness to our heritage and express the importance of passing the torch from one generation to the next. The family member that refers the most attendees to the 87th Reunion will receive a GIFT CERTIFICATE for registration. This is your chance to get creative; send emails, mail cards, go old school and make phone calls, go new school and use social media - Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat. Any method of communication that works for you, let’s make it happen and make those connections. Each person you reach, must submit your name on their registration form as a referred family member. Just Do It!!! Who will lead the pack?

October Emotional Wellness Month The emotional dimension of wellness emphasizes an awareness and acceptance of one’s feelings. Emotional wellness includes the degree to which one feels positive and enthusiastic about oneself and life. It includes the capacity to manage one’s feelings and related behaviors including the realistic assessment of one’s limitations, development of autonomy, and ability to cope effectively with stress. The emotionally well person maintains satisfying relationships with others.

Emotional Wellness allows you to be aware of and accept a wide range of feelings in yourself and others. You’ll be able to express feelings freely and manage feelings effectively. You’ll be able to arrive at personal choices and decisions based upon the synthesis of feelings, thoughts, philosophies, and behavior. On the wellness path, you’ll live and work independently while realizing the importance of seeking and appreciating the support and assistance of others. You’ll be able to form interdependent relationships with others based upon a foundation of mutual commitment, trust and respect. You’ll take on challenges, take risks, and recognize conflict as being potentially healthy. Managing your life in personally rewarding ways, and taking responsibility for your actions, will help you see life as an exciting, hopeful adventure.

November American Diabetes Month

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of disability and death in the United States. It can cause blindness, nerve damage, kidney disease, and other health problems if it’s not controlled. One in 10 Americans have diabetes — that’s more than 30 million people. And another 84 million adults in the United States are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The good news? People who are at high risk for type 2 diabetes can lower their risk by more than half if they make healthy changes. These changes include: eating healthy, getting more physical activity, and losing weight.

How can American Diabetes Month make a difference?

We can use this month to raise awareness about diabetes risk factors and encourage people to make healthy changes.

Here are just a few ideas:

• Encourage people to make small changes, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

• Talk to people in your community about getting regular checkups. They can get their blood pressure and cholesterol checked, and ask the doctor about their diabetes risk.

• Ask doctors and nurses to be leaders in their communities by speaking about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity.

INSPIRATIONAL CORNER

The Significance of A Seasonal Shift

Have you noticed? You’ve experienced a seasonal shift! Yes, it is happening all around you, but it is also happening within you. Don’t resist the seasonal shift, lean into it! There is purpose in every season of your life.

As we open our eyes and ears in a spiritual sense. God has a lot to say to us during this time. Go within yourself and take inventory on what needs to LEAVE and when it’s time to REAP.

This season is one of release and regeneration. An opportunity to realign and rebalance. Take full advantage of this time by getting still, listening, falling back and see what will FALL off!
