    AN APPEALt'

Dear Friend:We, an independent group of American citizens, have formed the AMERICAN

COMMITTEE FOR FRANCE AND ALGERIA, with the express purpose of supporting Francein her search for an equitable solution to the Algerian problem.

We believe that in the final analysis the people of Algeria, of their own freechoice, will choose integration and union with France. The Algerian people--Moslemsand Christians--have already twice expressed via th e ballot their overwhelming desireto be integrated with France, and these demonstrations of loyalty indicate clearlythat the terrorist rebels do not have the popular support of the Algerian masses. As a group, the AMERICAN COMMITTEE FOR FRANCE AND ALGmIA will be dedicated tothe task of informing the American public of the historical and present-day facts ofthe situation. We are alarmed at the way the raucous propaganda of the Arab andCommunist blocs in the UN have managed to turn public opinion against France andblinded Americans to the very real dangers of a Communist victory in North Africa. However, in order for us to be able to pursue our own vigorous counter-campaign wemust have the financial and moral support of a ll those who understand the urgency ofthis problem. The cause of Western democratic civilization is crucially at stake inthis highly strategic area of the Western world. We therefore urge you to contributewhatever you can to this important cause. Our campaign can only get underway whensufficient funds are available.
