Plate tectonic modellingWith new interpretation methodologies, our team has created a Global Plate Model which challenges and tests current hypotheses. This forms the framework for more detailed regional-scale modelling, allowing us to better understand the geological processes associated with exploration-scale problems.

Landscape and drainage analysisLandscape and drainage analysis examines the Present Day landscape and river networks to identify the controls on downstream sediment supply, past changes in the landscape, and thereby the evolution of source-to-sink relationships through time.

Sandstone provenance and reservoir qualityRobust predictive models of reservoir development, distribution and quality require the integration of quantitative rock data for calibration and validation. High-quality petrographic, mineralogic, element and isotope geochemical data provide key information on the provenance, distribution and post-depositional evolution of clastic reservoirs in the basin; the assessment of which is essential to reduce exploration risk.

Palaeogeography and palaeolandscape modellingInnovative and new palaeogeographic methodologies are being used to build a portfolio of global and regional GIS-based palaeogeographic atlases. These provide explorationists with a spatial and temporal understanding of landscape evolution (elevation and drainage). These maps also delineate the critical boundary conditions for climate modelling experiments.

Palaeoclimatology and palaeoceanographyDesigned to complement and enhance our core disciplines, the interpretation of palaeoclimate indicators, such as vegetation and evaporites, in conjunction with the application of coupled ocean-atmosphere models adds to our understanding of source, reservoir and seal depositional systems.

Petroleum geochemistryThe interpretation of organic geochemical data forms an integral part of our Regional Reports. Source-rock analysis, source-oil and oil-oil correlations, isotopic analysis, and both 1D and 2D basin modelling provide insights into petroleum systems, with biomarker data strengthening the robustness of the palaeoenvironmental aspects of our palaeogeographies. Our Principal Geochemist, Dr Richard Tyson, is one of the world ’ s leading authorities on source-rock prediction. His cutting-edge work is incorporated within Getech ’ s models of palaeogeography, palaeoclimate and lithofacies for predicting worldwide source-rock occurrence.

SedimentologyOur sedimentologists and sequence stratigraphers have worked on many different basins worldwide in both clastic and carbonate environments. Stratigraphic and sequence chronostratigraphic frameworks are the basis of our Regional Reports.

Typical Commissions Depth-to-basement – basin architecture

The principal objective of our interpretations of gravity and magnetic data, integrated where possible with supporting seismic and well data, is to provide clients with clear, meaningful and realistic insights into the nature and structure of the sub-surface. We work closely with the client’s exploration team to ensure that all supporting data and information are incorporated to reduce uncertainties in the geological model.

A study will typically include the following elements:

• Advanced processing to highlight subsurface trends and subtle features

• Analysis of the regional geological/tectonic setting utilising our Globe platform

• Structural mapping and delineation of crustal boundaries

• Incorporation of supporting seismic and well data

• Basement depth estimates from magnetic data

• 2D profile modelling of gravity and magnetic data

• 3D inversion of gravity or pseudo-gravity data

• Production of a structural depth-to-basement/basin morphology map

• All observations delivered in an ArcGIS™ project with an accompanying technical report

6

Petroleum geologyPetroleum systems and their individual components are analysed in detail from regional to prospect scale. A multi-disciplinary approach allows us to identify and assess the key global to local scale controls acting upon the petroleum systems of an individual sedimentary basin, whether it lies in a mature or frontier region.

GISGIS underpins all our reports and data packages. The GIS group is expert in all levels of Esri software from ArcGIS™ desktop through to ArcServer, which is also used as the front end to our potential fields, geological and other databases.

Refining seismic interpretationsSalt, evaporites and mud diapirs can all cause problems with seismic interpretation due to the variable, and sometimes minimal, density contrasts with the surrounding sediments. 2D and 3D gravity interpretation will help gain a better understanding of the variation of subsurface density and geometries of these features.

Basalt thickness estimatesMagnetic data can be used with gravity data to help estimate the thickness of basalts, e.g. in the Faeroes region of northwest Europe.

Planning new geophysical acquisitionInterpretation of existing potential fields data will help ensure that the orientation of any planned seismic survey is in the optimum direction to highlight the structural features under investigation, and enhance the value of subsequent data and interpretations.

Before acquiring new potential fields data, call us to find out what has already been acquired.

Structural and geological mappingIntegration of potential fields and seismic data, Landsat imagery and SRTM topography in the hands of our experienced structural geologists, leads to the generation of structural maps with high resolution and accuracy. These maps enable a better understanding of the subsurface and structural framework of a region, and assist with the planning of cost-effective data gathering, such as new potential fields or seismic data, field mapping or data sampling.

Proprietary plate modellingThe core of Getech ’ s Globe platform is our Global Plate Model. This is continuously tested and updated in the light of fresh observations and interpretations. Analysis of seismic data can be used to update the model in your specific area of interest, with full knowledge that the local plate model will always be consistent with the complete plate circuit.

Palaeogeographic mapping Our series of Global Palaeogeographic Atlases (Cenozoic, Cretaceous, Jurassic and Permian-Triassic) is used as the starting point for focussed palaeogeographic-mapping using a client’s proprietary data. Incorporating information from our Landscape Analysis reports, geological maps, provenance data and seismic data we test hypotheses on palaeolandscape and palaeodrainage evolution; thus reducing exploration risk for less well-understood areas.

Source-Rock EvaluationWe evaluate source-rock presence, quality and maturity for both unconventional and conventional hydrocarbon systems. To do this, we integrate geochemical data within a geological framework and use industry-standard basin modelling software to determine maturation, generation and expulsion histories. Additionally, we employ standard laboratory techniques including TOC, Rock-Eval, vitrinite reflectance, biomarker analysis, gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography– mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and isotopic determinations. We can also perform source-oil and oil-oil correlations.

Acreage assessmentsOur Globe knowledge database and Regional Reports provide the framework for additional technical work that can be carried out to assess farm-in and farm-out opportunities, Licence Round applications and frontier areas (where seismic and well data are often limited).

Global Gravity and Magnetic DataGetech has been collating, managing and processing gravity and magnetic data for over 25 years. Our global compilations are based on thousands of magnetic surveys and millions of gravity stations covering all the continents and continental margins of the world. They incorporate all of Getech ’ s continental-scale regional compilations of terrestrial data, with satellite and public domain data where appropriate.

The compilations are the core data components of our Globe platform, and underpin Getech ’ s Global Plate Tectonic Model and global structural database. Our strong relationships with many organisations around the world provide us with a great deal of higher-resolution surveys, for example covering the offshore Russian Arctic Shelf, Iraq, Tanzania and several countries in Europe and South America.
