The Commander Automatic Door Operator must be installed, maintained and serviced by authorized SAVARIA CONCORD dealers only.

The authorized SAVARIA CONCORD dealer must refer to this manual for installation, maintenance, service and repair instructions.

The owner is responsible for ensuring the ongoing safe operating condition of the Commander Automatic Door Operator through proper maintenance and service. An inspection check or service call should be performed on a regular basis every six to twelve months by an Authorized SAVARIA CONCORD Dealer (or as frequently as required by local jurisdiction).

This manual should be retained by the Dealer for future reference. On completion of the installation, the dealer MUST provide the owner with the information below and ensure that it is recorded in the Owner’s Manual.

Refer to the Standard Product Warranty supplied separately for warranty details.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

This manual contains installation and service instructions for the Commander Automatic Door Operator. The staff at Savaria Concord has spent much time and effort to ensure that these instructions provide for a safe and efficient installation. Please follow these instructions exactly and contact us immediately if you have any problems or need assistance.

Please be certain you follow our installation instructions and do not try to “cut any corners,” eliminate any installation steps or modify the Commander. It is important for your customers’ safety that the installation is thorough and correct. The best way to ensure this margin of safety is to carefully follow our installation instructions.

Give the installation and any special requirements careful consideration. Consider how the operator is to be run, allowing for the operators’ needs.

1.3 PRELIMINARY CHECKS

We strongly recommend that you conduct a pre-installation check when you receive shipment to verify contents for damaged or missing parts. Open the box and spread out the parts. Carefully check for damages that you must report to your carrier immediately and check for missing materials against our shipping list.

Clearance overhead. Minimum ceiling clearance is 7 inches (from top of door).

Door must swing freely through the entire opening and closing cycle.

Area where backing plate is to be mounted will safely support door operator.

Handing of unit must be the same as handing of door.

Check to make sure the coding switches in the receiver matches the remote.

120V standard wall outlet accessible to the installation location.

Transformer provided will convert main power supply to 16 volts AC 20 VA .

If interlock used is not integral part of a Savaria Concord elevating device, the electric strike or lock should be 12 VDC.

Door header must not exceed a 4 to 6 inch set back from the door face.

Swing In installations must have a minimum of 6 inch clearance from the hinge side or the operator arm may hit any wall at 90° to the hinge side.

2.0 OPERATOR INSTALLATION

1) Drill six (6) holes into the Back Plate as shown in Figure 1. Use application appropriate hardware (not provided).

2) Mount the Back Plate over the door header 1 ¼ ” above the top of the door. Refer to Figure 2.

3) Extend the edge of the Back Plate a minimum of 2” past the door hinge. Refer to Figure 2.

4) The centre of the spring shaft must be a maximum of 3 ½” from the door hinge (between 3” to 3 ½” is recommended.

a) Swing Out: Install the arm linkage to the front of the door 14 ¼” from the door hinge and ⅝” down from the top of the door. The centre line of the linkage must be 15” from the door hinge.

b) Swing In: Install the arm roller track to the front of the door, ½” down from the top of the door and 10” from the hinge line.

5) Insert the operator in the Back Plate with the Control Board facing out. The Back Plate and Operator will line up allowing the following:

Secure with two (2) ¼” - 20 - ⅜” Hex Head Cap Screws (PN 105172), ¼” washers (PN 101196) and lock washers (PN 101213) through the top of the operator and three (3) ¼” - 20 - ⅜” Hex Head Cap Screws (PN 105172), ¼” washers (PN 101196) and lock washers (PN 101213) through the base of the Back Plate. Refer to Figure 1 and 5.

6) Set the tension on the spring as follows:

a) For Right-Hand Operators, rotate the pulley in a clockwise direction to feel a noticeable resistance. Release the pulley, when it stops rotating, turn the pulley clockwise 3 more times and insert a small flat head screwdriver between the belt and pulley. Refer to Figure 5.

b) For Left-Hand Operators, rotate the pulley in a counter-clockwise direction to feel a noticeable resistance. Release the pulley, when it stops rotating, turn the pulley counter-clockwise 3 more times and insert a small flat head screwdriver between the belt and pulley. Refer to Figure 5.

c) The operator may have to be removed for this step. If drive belt tension is required, loosen the three (3) ½” Phillips machine screws from the motor mounting bracket and slide left or right to tighten/loosen the belt around the pulley. Refer to Figure 5.

d) With the door at a 45°, place the arm over the Spring Shaft and secure with the ¼” x 1 ¼” Flat Head Phillips screw. Remove the screwdriver and test door function.

e) If more adjustment is rquired, open the door 45° angle and stop the dirve belt by inserting a screwdriver between the belt and pulley. Remove the ¼” screw and separate the arm from the Spring Shaft.

f) To decrease spring force: from the 45° angle, close the door approx. 12”, rotate the arm by one Spring Shaft groove and loosely re-attach the arm to the Spring Shaft with the ¼” screw.

g) To increase spring force: from the 45° angle, open the door approx. 12”, rotate the arm by one Spring Shaft groove and loosely re-attach the arm to the Spring Shaft with the ¼” screw.

7) Install the Arm Assembly as per Section 2.1 Arm Assembly Installation.

8) Connect the electrical wiring as per Section 2.2 Electrical Installation.

9) Adjust cams and pots as per Sections 2.3 Potentiometer Adjustments and 2.4 Setting the Cams.

10) Once no further adjustment is required, remove the ¼” screw from the arm, apply blue Loctite (or equivalent) and firmly re-install the screw through the arm and Spring Shaft.

11) Adjust Arm Assembly and install the Operator Cover with the provided six (6) #8-32 screws.

12) Test operation.

2.1 ARM ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION

There are three (3) different arm assemblies available: left-hand/right-hand swing out (LHSO/RHSO), left-hand swing in (LHSI) and right-hand swing in (RHSI).

The “swing out” assembly (LHSO/RHSO) can be used on both swing out model operators. Refer to Figure 6.

The “swing in” arm assemblies are nearly identical to each other with the exception of the arm, depending whether it is a left-hand or right-hand door opening. Refer to Figures 7 and 8.

Each arm assembly is shipped pre-assembled. To mount the arm assembly on the operator, proceed as follows:1) Ensure the door is in the closed position and the operator has spring tension, refer to

section 2.0 for spring tension setting instructions.2) Slide the Arm assembly over the spring shaft and loosely secure with the provided ¼”

x ⅝” Pan Head Phillips screw through the bottom of the arm and spring shaft. Refer to Figures 5, 6, 7 and 8.

For Swing Out Models

a) Mount the swing out arm linkage bracket with the hardware provided as shown in Figure 3.

For Swing In Models

a) Slide the arm roller track (loosely) over the nylon roller. Refer to Figures 7 and 8.

b) Mount the arm roller track with the hardware provided as shown in Figure 4.

c) Ensure the arm channel track is level and that the nylon roller slides smoothly inside the channel.

When properly installed, the arm assembly should look similar to the example shown below.

2.2 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

2.2.1 Doors by Others Only

Commanders shipped for a 120 volt power supply are provided with a 16 volt stepdown transformer.

1) Connect the transformer wires into the TAC-1 and TAC-2 terminals on the Operator Control Board (PN 772345). Refer to Figure 13.

2) Plug the transformer into a 120 volt outlet.

Commanders shipped for a 220 volt power supply, require a 16 volt transformer to be provided by others. If the door is equipped with an electric strike lock, connect lock wiring to terminal TSS on the Operator Control Board.

2.2.2 Optional Push Button Switch

Mount the switch in a convenient location on the wall near the door and connect the wiring to TDOB-1 and TDOB-2 terminal. Refer to Figure 13.

2.2.3 Savaria Concord Lift or Elevator Doors

1) Connect the supplied Operator harness into terminal T2 on the Operator Control Board. Refer to Figure 13.

2) Connect the other end of the harness to the lift Main Control Board appropriate Operator terminal (i.e. TDOB, TDOM, TDOT for P.A.L.). Refer to the Electrical Schematics supplied with the lift.

2.2.4 Jumper Configuration

J1 Initial Force Jumper, RH two pins for max. or LH two pins for min. Set to the minimum position to get the door started.

IMPORTANT

The battery back-up wires are shipped disconnected. Connect the red and black wires to T4-1 (negative) and T4-2 (positive) terminals and check the F1 fuse for continuity.

2.2.5 Start-Up

During initial installation set the following:

1) Initial Force Jumper J1 must be set to MIN.

2) Pot R13 Open Speed must be set to MIN. Remaining pots must be set to top centre as shown in Figure 13.

3) Slowly turn R13 Open Speed clockwise until the door opens. Leave R13 at this setting.

4) When R13 Open Speed is set to MAX, the board will shut down. Turn R13 Open Speed counter-clockwise to MIN and repeat step 3.

2.3 POTENTIOMETER (POT) ADJUSTMENTSThe cams “stop” and “start” the opening and closing of the door however, if fine tuning is required, there are five (5) potentiometers located on the circuit board which can be adjusted. In each case, turning the pot clockwise increases the value, counter-clockwise decreases the value. Refer to Figure 13.

Refer to Figure 13 for pot layout.

1) Press the Door Open button. The Open LED will come ON.

2) Adjust the Open Speed pot to obtain the desired opening speed.

3) Once the door reaches the open position, adjust the Backcheck (Hold Current) pot to hold the door open against the return spring.

4) When the open time expires and the door begins to close, adjust the Close Speed pot to obtain the desired closing speed.

5) Repeat the above procedures as many times as required to fine tune the settings and adjust the Total Open Time pot.

6) Adjust the Opening Force pot so that the door closes if it encounters an obstruction while opening. The amount of force the door will apply to overcome any obstruction or blockage is determined by the Opening Force/Overcurrent pot setting.

2.4 SETTING THE CAMSThere are three (3) cam and switch assemblies which require field adjustment. Adjust each cam in the exact sequence as indicated below:

1) Use a pair of needle nosed pliers to hold each cam and manually rotate around the Spring Shaft into position.

2) Latch Check (Middle Switch, Fig. 14-B) Wire colours are Red and Green, the switch is wired normally open on the Commander

only. As the door is closing, adjust the middle cam (Latch Check cam Figure 14-B) so that the cam comes OFF the switch when the door is 3” (76 mm) from the fully closed position.

3) Open Limit Switch (Lower Switch, Fig. 14-C) Wire colours are Brown and Blue, the switch is wired normally open. Rotate the

lower cam (Open Limit cam Figure 14-C) so that the cam comes OFF the switch when the door is in the fully open position.

4) Push ‘N Go (Upper Switch, Fig. 14-A) Wire colours are White and Black. Rotate the upper cam (Push ‘N Go Figure 14-A) so

that the cam makes contact with the switch when the door is 1 inch open to fully open position.

NOTE

If the Commander is used in conjunction with one of Savaria Concord’s lifting devices, the remote control will not call the cab. The call button must be used to bring the

lifting device to the desired floor.

2.5 REMOTE CONTROLThe remote control is factory set and does not require any adjustment.

If required, refer to Section 2.6 for Code Setting Instructions provided for adjusting the remote control and the receiver.

The remote control will not open the door unless the platform is at the correct level and the door is unlocked. It is recommended that the remote receiver be removed from the Commander unit and the elevator call button be used for these applications.

2.6 REMOTE CONTROL PROGRAMMING Note that the Remote Control Receiver is factory installed in the Commander Door Operator and pre-programmed with codes that match the Remote Control.

1) To change the Remote Control codes, remove the cover and turn the selected toggle switches ON. The Remote Control codes must match the Receiver codes. Refer to Figures 15 and 16 “Remote Control OEM Instructions”.

2) Disconnect all power from the Commander.

3) Remove the Commander cover and locate the Receiver.

4) The Receiver switches are located on the rear side. Remove the cover and turn the selected toggle switches ON, ensure that these exactly match the Remote Control switches. Refer to Figure 17 “Receiver OEM Instructions”.

5) Test the Remote Control as per the OEM Instructions.

Before leaving the job site:

1) Clean up the work area.

2) Make sure all bolts and nuts are tight.

3) Explain the operation of the Commander and safety features to the customer.

2.7 ELECTRIC STRIKE INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL)The electric strike is to be installed for door opening applications only, DO NOT use as an elevator interlock.

Refer to the supplied manufacturer’s instructions for template layout or use the measurements provided in Figures 18 and 19. Note that OEM measurements are in mm.

1) The following electric strike wires are not used and must be cut back or terminated:

✔ Orange - Green - Grey

✔ White- Blue -Yellow

2) Remove the electric strike cover, refer to Figure 18.

3) Run 20 gauge wires from the Commander Operator Board terminals TSS 1 (GND) and TSS 2 (HOT) to the electric strike solenoid wires (red and black). Butt splice to connect the wires to the solenoid at the electric strike side.

4) Install the electric strike in the door frame cutout with the provided hardware.

IMPORTANTRun the wiring from the Commander Operator Board to the lock cutout before the door

frame installation is complete.

POT FUNCTION INITIAL SETTING

FIRST, SET ALL POTS AS INDICATED ABOVE. PRESS THE DOOR OPEN BUTTON. THE OPEN LEDWILL COME ON. ADJUST THE OPEN SPEED POT TO OBTAIN THE DESIRED OPENING SPEED. WHENTHE DOOR REACHES THE OPEN POSITION, ADJUST THE BACK CHECK POT TO HOLD THE DOOROPEN AGAINST THE RETURN SPRING. WHEN THE OPEN TIME EXPIRES AND THE DOOR BEGINS TOCLOSE, ADJUST THE CLOSE SPEED POT TO OBTAIN THE DESIRED CLOSING SPEED. REPEAT THEABOVE PROCEDURE AS MANY TIMES AS NECESSARY TO FINE TUNE YOUR SETTINGS AND TOADJUST THE TOTAL TIME POT. LAST, ADJUST THE FORCE POT SO THAT THE DOOR CLOSES IF ITENCOUNTERS AN OBSTRUCTION WHILE OPENING. THE AMOUNT OF FORCE THE DOOR WILL APPLYTO OVERCOME ANY OBSTRUCTION OR BLOCKAGE IS DETERMINED BY THE FORCE(OVERCURRENT) POT SETTING.

OPEN LIMIT SWITCH (LOWER)- WIRE COLOURS: BROWN & BLUEADJUST CAM TO COME OFF THE SWITCH WHEN THE DOOR IS FULLY OPEN.

BRAKE SWITCH [PRO-II], LATCH CHECK [COMMANDER] (MIDDLE) - WIRE COLOURS: RED & GREENPRO-II (N.C.) - ADJUST CAM TO COME OFF THE SWITCH WHEN THE DOOR IS 3 INCHES FROM CLOSED.COMMANDER (N.O.) - ADJUST CAM TO COME OFF THE SWITCH WHEN THE DOOR IS 3 INCHES FROMCLOSED.
