Teachers Change Lives
It is not an exaggeration to say that a great teacher can change a student's life. ... If you
want to be a great educator, you must connect with your pupils and reach them on multiple
levels, because the best teachers are committed to their students' well‐being both inside and
outside the classroom.

The 4 Colors – 4 Elements• Filters how we interpret what’s happening to us• Dominant ‘color’ shows with whom we most naturally attune
• Less dominant ‘color’ shows who we less naturally relate to
• Dominant ‘color’ shows how we perceive our reality
Blue – Water – Feeling • Expression
– Caring, receptive, emotional, protective
• Motivation– Feelings, the heart, emotion,
security, compassion• Decisions
– What feels right, people first, security, rooted in past

empathetic, sentimental, emotional, nurturing, habitual, impressionable, possessive
• Blue speak – “How do you feel about it?”
Blue/Water
“Water is yielding but all‐conquering … extinguishes Fire, escapes as steam and reforms …. washes away soft Earth or, confronted by rocks, seeks a way around… It saturates the atmosphere so that Wind dies. Water gives way to obstacles with deceptive humility, for no power can prevent it following its destined course to the sea … conquers by yielding; it never attacks but always wins the last battle.”
John Blofeld’s (11th century Chinese scholar) The Wheel of Life
Brown – Earth – Senses • Expression
– Direct, limited emotions, matter‐of‐fact, rigid, authoritative
• Motivation– Outcomes, efficiency, security,
productivity, form and structure• Decisions
– Act now, proven value, rooted in past, what is attainable now
• Conflict– Fact of life
• Characteristics– Practical, determined, self‐
disciplined, realistic, responsible, predictable, conventional, stable
• Brown speak – “Let’s get to work on it.”
Brown/Earth
“Earth likes to have things running efficiently therefore see all projects to their completion, no matter how demanding. All bothersome loose ends are to be wrapped up. Earth can therefore run a tight ship, especially when a deadline is fast approaching. No wonder all the other elements tend to leave poor, dependable earth holding the bag –earth is a sucker for doing “the dirty work” that no other element wants to touch.”
Bil Tierney
Green – Air – Thinking • Expression

• Conflict– Depersonalize
• Characteristics– Analytical, planners, reflective,
perfectionists, inventive, thinkers, conceptual, objective
• Green speak – “Let me think about it”
Green/Air
“The air realm is the world of archetypal ideas behind the veil of the physical world, the cosmic energy actualized into specific patterns of thought. It is associated with geometric lines of force functioning through the mind, the energy which shapes the patterns of things to come.”
Stephen Arroyo
Red – Fire ‐ Intuition• Expression
– Spontaneous, figurative, full of life, fun‐loving, “on stage”
• Motivation– Inspiration, excitement, insight,
intuition, change • Decisions
– Quick, change easily, future focus• Conflict
– Bring it on, stirs the pot• Characteristics

• Red speak – “I’m going for it!”
Red/Fire
“They do not consider rational or logical thinking or practical feasibility. The idea comes to them fully formed and full of power. While the idea may grow over a period of time, it does not grow logically but intuitively. Sometimes fiery people do not know why they must do what they must do!”
Ken Ward
