JD Level Studies:

Application extension until Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

Program Dates: May 25 - June 7, 2019.

Fully-funded: All program costs are covered, including travel, lodging, and food.

Interdisciplinary: FASPE Law Fellows travel with Fellows in the FASPE Business and Journalism programs

Itinerary: Fellows will travel to Berlin, Krakow and Oswiecim (the location of the former Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz).

Eligibility: Applicants must be currently enrolled in a JD or LLM (or equivalent) program OR have received such a degree between May 2017 and January 2019.

FASPE programs are non-denominational. Candidates of all nationalities, religions, and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. FASPE Law is a fully-funded, two-week fellowship program in professional ethics and ethical leadership that begins by examining the actions and choices of German lawyers in enabling and implementing Nazi policies. It then draws on this historical example to help Law Fellows grasp their role as influencers in their field and in their communities as well as identify and confront the ethical issues currently facing lawyers and the legal

profession. The program takes place in Germany and Poland at the sites of Nazi actions, allowing Fellows to benefit from the power of the place and immersive, contextual learning.

The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2019. All law students in Canadian law schools (LL.B/JD or LL.M candidates who will graduate in 2019 or later) are eligible. Past winners (from UofT, UBC, and UofA) and their papers are here and here and here.

Advocates In Defence of Expression in Media/Canadian Media Lawyers Association is dedicated to the promotion and protection of freedom of expression throughout Canada. Our objective is “to reaffirm every day, in every court in our country, the importance of these freedoms”. Ad IDEM/CMLA offers annually the Ad IDEM Writing Prize for a paper promoting freedom of expression.

Deadline: May 31, 2019. The winner will be announced by September 2019.

Canada-China Scholars' Exchange Program 2019-2020 - Deadline March 1, 2019 Global Affairs Canada and the Chinese Ministry of Education are offering short-term scholarships to Canadians wishing to study abroad in China. Scholarships are awarded for studies, research, language studies or a combination of studies and language studies at participating Chinese institutions.

• Program name: Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program • Funding organizations: Global Affairs Canada and the Ministry of Education of

the People’s Republic of China • Target audiences: Canadian students (college, undergraduate and graduate

levels in Canada); Canadian faculty members and research staff at a post-secondary institution in Canada; Canadian mid-career professionals

• Number of scholarships: Over 20 • Duration: 4 to 12 months for students; and 8 weeks to 12 months for faculty

$1000 Construction Law Writing prize -Submissions due Jan. 15 2019

The J. Stephen Tatrallyay Memorial Award is given by the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers ("CCCL") to a law student selected by the CCCL in its sole and absolute discretion based on the criteria below. The late Stephen Tatrallyay was one of the leading construction lawyers in Canada and a past President and Founding Fellow of the CCCL. Stephen was well known for his consistent contributions to the body of literature in the area of construction law. This Award was created in memory of Stephen and to encourage law students to prepare and submit a paper for consideration by the CCCL. The law student with the successful submission will:

(i) Receive a $1,000 Award;

(ii) Have their paper published in the Journal of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers which has been published annually since 2007; and

(iii) Be featured in the Articles section of the CCCL website.

The Queen’s University OGS competition is open to any eligible graduate student registered in or any eligible applicant to, a graduate program in the School of Graduate Studies. The Queen’s OGS award must be taken up at Queen’s; it is not transferable to another institution.

Scholarship Value: $15,000 for one academic year, normally paid out in 3 equal installments. The award is not renewable.

Department of Psychology at Western University, London ON. Briefly, the study involves completing a set of online questionnaires about yourself and your experiences of social support as well as various psychological outcomes. It is anticipated that the entire task will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Following the completion of the survey, you will be offered the opportunity to enter a draw to win one of 25 gift cards valued at $20 or $50 (Tim Horton’s or Starbucks).

Law Students Wanted to Participate in CIAJ’s Provincial Roundtables on Jury Representation In the spring and fall of 2019, the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice (CIAJ) will organize provincial roundtables on the topic of systemic barriers to the representation of Indigenous peoples and racialized minorities on juries in Canada. The roundtables will take place in Manitoba (April 6, 2019), British Columbia (June 1, 2019), Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada respectively (specific dates to come). Law students studying or living in these provinces will be invited to work alongside members of the Roundtable Planning Committee.

How to participate Students are encouraged to send their CV and a cover letter explaining their willingness to participate in this project. Please submit your documents to [email protected] by January 31, 2019.

This award is given annually to a Queen's teacher who, in the view of his/her students and colleagues, demonstrates superior abilities as a teacher and commitment to effective learning.
