L’Algebra Morente Del Cielo (The Dying Algebra of the Sky in English) is the sixth full-length release from KALASHNIKOV COLLECTIVE, a seven- sometimes eight-piece romantic punk group from Milano, Italy. Since their inception in 1996, KALASHNIKOV has been renowned for their frenetic live performances, groundbreaking songwriting, and sincere dedication to the DIY spirit of punk. Defying easy classification, the band embraces a myriad of musical and cultural influences; imagine an ‘80s crossover punk band doing the tango to synthesizers, and you’re somewhat close. Coining the term “Romantic Punk,” KALASHNIKOV may have altogether invented a new genre of music, and have fast become one of the most innovative and important bands in the punk underground worldwide. New wave, ska, metal, thrash, anarchopunk, traditional and classical interludes weave in and out at a breakneck pace, and somehow make perfect sense in the world of KALASHNIKOV. It is a lyrical protest against an impending dystopian future, and if the revolution were to throw a dance party, this would be the soundtrack.

One and only album released in 1974 by Melbourne’s BUSTER BROWN. Formed in 1973. their street smart, straight ahead boogie rock was embraced by Melbourne’s notorious sharpies crowd. For the uninitiated, they were an Australian subculture that was somewhere between what was the skinhead and suedehead subcultures of the U.K.

BUSTER BROWN’s significance to rock music though goes much further. Ultimately a micro dot to what BUSTER BROWN vocalist Gary “Angry” Anderson and bassist Geordie Leach would achieve when they moved to Sydney and formed globally renowned hard rock giants, ROSE TATTOO. Drummer Phil Rudd would stay in Melbourne and become the drummer for a little outfit out of Sydney, AC/DC – not a bad dent on the global hard rock music scene from this small, one-shot Melbourne band.

If that’s not enough legendary status for this album, it was produced by Australian guitar god, Lobby Loyde, whose credits as a musician include THE PURPLE HEARTS, THE WILD CHERRIES, COLOURED BALLS & BILLY THORPE & THE AZTECS. As a producer Lobby worked with SUNNYBOYS, MACHINATIONS, X, SARDINE V and more.

Upon release in 1974, Something to Say disappeared without too much fan fare. Original vinyl pressings are now extremely hard to find, highly sought after and command major dollars on the rare record market.

Debut album. Anyone familiar with the Northern soul scene, or 1960’s soul in general know the brief but much heralded career of DARRELL BANKS that spanned slightly more than a handful of 45s and two LPs. A life cruelly cut short by a policeman’s bullet in 1970. His music has lived on for generations of lovers of super fine soul sides the globe over: the stuff of legend.

Many of his sides now are staples of the Northern Soul scene and spun the world over. “Our Love (Is In The Pocket)”, “Angel Baby (Don’t You Ever Leave Me)” and “Open The Door To Your Heart” are perennials on playlists for dancefloors or compilation albums of stone-cold Northern Soul classics.

Starting out on the revered Revilot label who were responsible for 45’s by THE PARLIAMENTS, PAT LEWIS, ROSE BATISTE, & J.J BARNES amongst others, Darrell Banks had two singles were released on the label before he signed with Atlantic Records and his debut album, Darrell Banks Is Here! was released on the ATCO label.

GEORGE CLINTON, J.J. BARNES, EDWIN STARR, ROSEMARIE MCCOY, FRANK WILSON all feature on writing credits for tunes on this album. Ten tracks of sublime soul. Musicians most likely used on these recordings are the legendary Funk Brothers being that they backed other Revilot artists, and barely a Detroit soul side was cut without their fingerprints all over them, be safe to assume they are the musicians on this albums since there’s no actual credits on the artwork for musicians appearing on the album.

The career path of REDD KROSS has been a long and winding one… Starting out as part of the burgeoning Los Angeles South Bay punk scene in the late 1970’s. Kids hanging out at the legendary Church in Hermosa Beach that served as the head quarters of BLACK FLAG, along with the living quarters of some of its members. Brothers Steven & Jeff McDonald joined by future CIRCLE JERKS guitarist, Greg Hetson & future BLACK FLAG vocalist, Ron Reyes.

Members came and went, the nucleus of the band, the McDonald brothers always at the helm though guiding the band from its early roots as a thrashy punk rock band through to the metamorphosis of power pop titans. Third Eye was their debut major label release on Atlantic Records, their third long player over all, featuring the hit singles that should have been, “Annie’s Gone” and “1976”. Third Eye was jam packed with catchy hooks, slick production and memorable tunes. Sadly, it was the only album on Atlantic Records.

Released originally in 1990 in the golden period of the major label’s deciding “vinyl was dead”, and compact discs were the future (remember them?) Third Eye was only briefly available on vinyl in the U.S and saw extremely limited released on LP in Europe. Subsequently Third Eye has become increasingly hard to find on vinyl-- that’s now been corrected!
