Mrs Peavey’s Post

Learning News Mad about Science Today we celebrated Science Week with our Mad about Science Incursion. Please see photos. Celebrating Literacy Afternoon Wednesday 21 Aug 3:45pm-5:45pm Next Wednesday is our Literacy open afternoon, please come along and see your children’s literacy work and participate in the treasure hunt. We hope to see you all there. Home learning At Romsey Primary we have home learning guidelines which are attached to the newsletter. This is the second year they have been in place and they have been discussed in the newsletter before. I urge all parents to re-familiarise themselves with these expectations. These guidelines are minimum recommendations, we actually support parents reading every day with their children and involving their children as often as possible in numeracy fact games and practise. SMART spelling has a set routine which has a 5 day cycle. If you are unsure about how to support your child’s home learning please see your classroom teacher.

School Matters Extended date Parent Opinion Survey-WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK! If you have received the parent opinion survey on your email we hope you could make time to participate. We so value your opinion and want to hear from you, feedback makes our school an even better place. The survey date has been extended until Sunday 18

th Aug, due to low return numbers.

Toasty Tuesdays Toasty Tuesdays starts next Tuesday 20

th Aug 8:45am at the canteen. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Basketball Well done to our basketball teams who competed in the district competition at Boardman Stadium on Tuesday. Congratulations to the teams (see photos) for participating with such sportsmanship. A special mention to Mr Milsom who planned and facilitated a very successful day for the network. CCC Thank you to the 8 people who attended the CCC last Thursday and discussed the students’ Attitude to School Data. We also discussed a number of other topics. Please be reminded that if at any time you have a question please do not hesitate to call the office to assist you or to make an appointment for a discussion. I would also like to remind families that your first port of call with most queries is your classroom teacher, followed by the Unit leaders and then leadership. To refresh people’s memories the Unit leaders are; Prep- Erin Moore, 1/2 Sharon Hoctor-Turner, 3/4 Fiona Holland, 5/6 Liam Devlin and the specialists Amy Green. Could I also please remind families that the past newsletters are all stored on the school website if you need to go back to confirm details you may have misplaced. The newsletter is the best source of information for all community members.

3.2M Romsey Regeneration Project Currently we are awaiting the first meeting to be set for the development of the next stages in the Regeneration Project. The school is ready and we are just waiting for the Department and the architects to establish a time for the initial planning meetings. This is an initial meeting, no plans for building will be started. We will keep the community involved at every step. I have had a number of queries around the P-9. Just a reminder that the Community Consultation which took place last year led to the findings that the school would remain as a P-6. This will be reviewed every 3-4 years. For more information please download the community engagement summary report in Word or PDF. Playground We are aware that the community has many questions around the playground project. We are currently revising plans so at present there is a lot of going back and forth between the architect, department and the school. I ask that the community be patient with this process, we are working towards achieving the best outcomes for our school. This money is a bonus for us, as it would have taken us many years to raise $180,000 through fundraising. Keep being involved in your child’s learning.

Book Week 2019

WEDNESDAY 21ST- WHOLE SCHOOL BOOK WEEK ACTIVITY FRIDAY 23RD AUGUST – DRESS UP

Dress up as a character from your favourite book, or a reading

superhero that has special powers that help you to read.

Celebrating Book Week 2019 Hi. I’m Juniper, the Literacy Captain and this is a reminder about Book Week next week. The focus of Book Week this year is, “Reading is my Superpower.” We all have some sort of power when reading books. On Wednesday the 21st of August the school will be open from 3:45pm to 5:45pm so families can see all the work we’ve been doing on this year’s Book Week theme. Come along and see the superheroes we

create and all the related work that will be displayed in our atriums. There will also be a superhero treas-ure hunt to be completed with a prize to be won. Then on Friday the 23rd of August we will be having our dress up day so come and be a part of our parade that is starting at 11:15am. You can dress up as any book character and of course a superhero. Can't wait to see you all there!

Sentral Parent Portal Access If you have not been able to set up your parent portal access to Sentral please let the office staff know. Mrs Perryman will be happy to organise a session for you to come along and help you get set up.

Pat Yourselves on the Back, Parents! It is fantastic to see that most parents are now remembering to notify us when their children are absent from school. This lightens the workload of our office staff enormously and saves a lot of time following up on unexplained absences. Thank you! You assistance with this is much appreciated.

Meal Deal Orders—Last Call! Please remember that Meal Deal orders close tomorrow and that late orders will not be accepted. Meal Deal Day is next Friday August 23rd. There will be no other canteen lunch orders available on this day.

During 1/2 MC reading sessions, we have been focusing on inferencing. We look at pictures or text and find clues to help us understand more about a text. Our author study this term is Aaron Blabey who writes the Pig the Pug series. We were given a picture from his newest book Pig the Tourist and inferred what we thought the picture was about.

Basketball On Tuesday 13th August the COBAW district Basketball day was held at Boardman Stadium and we had a 5/6 boys and a 5/6 girls team represent the school. Both teams did a tremendous job in competing with some of the bigger schools and can be very proud of the way they conducted themselves. The boys team finished in 4th place and the girls team finished in 6th. Both teams were only a couple of win away from being in the final. The boys team: Marcus Green, Riley Matthews, Ayden Smith, Brodie Dowell, Jerome Ristevski, Klem Evans, Luke Winwood and Daniel Tucker

The girls team: Matilda Goodwin-Dorning, Alice Bromley, Taylor Pace, Josie Lepore, Meisha Archibald, Edie Langman and Emily Bonnici A special thankyou to Mrs Sally Davies and Mrs Bec Dowell for managing the teams and to Amanda and Jarod Lepore who coached the teams. Their help makes running these days a lot smoother and to have their experience of Basketball helps to develop your sons and daughter’s skills. It was also great to have parents drop in during the day and support the teams. This support is always great for the kids to have.

Athletics Next Thursday 22nd of August, the COBAW district Athletics are being held in Bendigo. Students who have progressed to this date will have their permission form and the bus will leave at 8.30am sharp. We anticipate to be back by 3.30pm. At this point I have one parent helper coming along but if you are interested please let me know as all help is greatly appreciated.
