Congratulations to those students who have received reports indicating that they are well on-track for successful completion of their senior schooling. These students have demonstrated a commitment to achievement and an excellent work ethic. Accompanying the report is a copy of their ‘Student Course Mark Analysis Graph’. This graph is similar to the NAPLAN results you may have seen in Years 3, 5, 7 & 9 and compares your son’s/daughter’s marks in each of their courses to all other students studying the same course at EGC. The black dot on this graph represents their mark. After reading the report, look at this graph to see where they stand compared to other students doing the same course. It is an ideal time for students to reflect on their progress and goals. We have included a Goal Setting Questionnaire for them to set some goals for next semester and reflect on how they can improve their results. There are some students who haven’t yet grasped the concept that they need to work in their courses in order to achieve passing grades. On the down side for those who want to leave school, they are not showing themselves in a particularly good light to employers with these results. I’m sure that you would all agree that we don’t want to get to a stage of having to repeat a year of schooling, so the time for change is now. Congratulations to all Year 12 students who achieved pleasing results in their Semester One reports and are on track for WACE achievement. It is important that Year 12 students realise that the majority of all assessments need to be completed by the end of Term 3. The message is work hard and do your very best as the end of your schooling is coming quickly. Issue 8 • June 28, 2019 COMING EVENTS

With this newsletter you will find a copy of your son’s/daughter’s Semester One report.

Diggers & Dealers is an annual event which this year runs from 5 - 7 August and takes place adjacent to our college in the Goldfields Arts Centre and its car park. During both the lead up and the event itself there is a great deal of extra traffic in the area - so please consider alternative sites to drop off and pick up students. Buses will be dropping off and picking up from behind the Arts Centre in Hanbury Street during this time.

ALL STUDENTS NEED TO TAKE EXTRA CARE OVER THIS TIME - PARTICULARLY CROSSING AT THE CHEETHAM / CASSIDY STREETS AREA.

DIGGERS & DEALERS

An information night will be held for prospective parents on Monday 29 July at 5.30pm - venue EGC Student Services Block. Course selection packages will be available for collection on that evening. For parents of students at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School and Kambalda West District High School who cannot attend, packages will be posted out to you.

Packages and enrolment information will be available on the college Website - www.egc.wa.edu.au - and through the office early next term.

Enrolment and course selection will be due at the end of Week 6 Term 3 (30 August). All students will need to attend a course counselling session at EGC during Term 3. Students applying for a VET course will need to attend an interview with the VET Co-ordinator.

Year 10 students will attend Eastern Goldfields College between 16 - 19 December 2019 undertaking a modified timetable of their 2020 selections. That will be a time to consolidate the subjects they have chosen.

YEAR 10 TRANSITION

Year 12 Course Selections for 2020

During Term 3, all Year 11 students will need to complete a course selection for 2020. Semester One reports should give a clear indication of what direction to take in Year 12, or whether or not a further year in Year 11 will be required.

Students should be choosing a pathway where they will have definite success whether that be ATAR (University) or General pathway.

More information will be available during Term 3 leading up to course selection.

COUNTRY WEEK - Again this year we have sent teams to Perth to compete in the annual Country Week competition where students from government schools all over the State meet up in the last week of Term 2. We have both Boys and Girls teams in Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer, Girls Netball along with mixed Touch Rugby. Squad Captains for 2019 are Cyrille Malihan and Sarah Gaby. Results will be out at the start of next term.

UNIFORMS - Due to being located on such an open and public area, college tops make it easy for staff to identify our students, along with generating a strong sense of pride and belonging. As we would like students to consider EGC as their work place we would appreciate them being in their work clothes and that includes a college jumper or jacket. As with all of our uniform tops, these are available from The Green Door Gallery in Brookman Street Kalgoorlie. Currently there are a number of our students who are attending without wearing the EGC top and we would like this to be rectified for the start of Term 3.

We would also appreciate our students in blue or black jeans/pants/shorts with no logos or ripping. While they may be in fashion, they are not appropriate for our workplace.

Being in the college uniform was agreed to by all parents and students when enrolling at Eastern Goldfields.

COLLEGE CHARGES

A further reminder to parents/guardians with outstanding charges – you are requested to finalise all outstanding charges by end of Term 3. Your statement is enclosed with this newsletter.

REMINDER - TERM 3 CLASSES COMMENCE

TUESDAY 23 JULY

FAREWELL - At the end of Term 2 we say farewell to an

integral member of our college executive team - Deputy Principal, Miss Amy Palmer. Amy has been at EGC for 12 ½ years – 8 of those as Deputy Principal. She is now taking on a Deputy role at Denmark SHS. Everyone at the college will be sad to see Amy leave as she has been an excellent leader and role model. She has a wonderful work ethic and is a highly respected member of our College team. We all wish Amy and her family every success and the very best for their move to Denmark. Thank you for your time at Eastern Goldfields College.
