By: Victoria Vale
Family Life
• Children are regarded as blessings. If parents were unable to have a child, they could adopt. So all you kids who want to get the “special treatment”, come to Egypt!
• If a family can’t afford to send their sons to school, the parents will teach the children at home. In Egypt, there is an education for everyone!
Marriage
• Most girls married at age twelve, while boys were always a few years older.
• A common man would have one wife, a king would have many.
• Divorce was an option, but not common. Egypt is a place where marriages last!
Food and Cooking
• Done in clay ovens over fires.• Bread and beer were the most
popular food and drink. • Food was prepared in many different
ways. If you like trying new, interesting things, then Egypt is the place for you!

• Everyone wore jewelry and makeup. It’s a girl’s dream world!
Clothing

• Clothes were made from linen.• Clothes were designed for comfort in
the hot, dry weather. Even with that hot sun, you can still be comfortable on your vacation in Egypt!
Housing
• Homes were made of sun-dried bricks, called adobe, because wood was scarce.
• Most people slept on the roof in the summer to escape the heat.
• Each home was equipped with a fly swatter. Good-bye bugs!
Entertainment
• Most entertainment was centered around the Nile River. Egyptians would fish, have boat rides, and swim. Fun in the sun!
• Egyptians also hosted large parties. Acrobats, musicians, singers, and dancers were hired to entertain.
• Festivals in honor of the gods happened on holidays, where people could have fun and enjoy a feast.
Government
• Their ruler-called the pharaoh- was much more than a king to the Egyptians.
• The pharaoh was believed to possess the secrets of the afterlife and the earth.

The Writing of the EgyptiansBy: Kail Yuan
Hieroglyphics
• Hieroglyphics are a form of ancient Egyptian writing who’s name means “sacred drawings”
• There are three kinds of hieroglyphics:• Alphabetic, representing letter sounds• Syllabic, representing letter group sounds• Determinative, representing specific objectsAll of these are simplified to be easier to draw
• Scientists believe that hieroglyphics used to be a form of pictograms, but eventually led to standing for letter sounds.
Rosetta Stone
• Made in 169 BCE• Found in 1799• Inscribed with laws• Written in three forms
of writing• Translated by Jean
Champollion• Was major step to
understanding Hieroglyphics.
More Facts
• System had absolutely no vowels• System didn’t use punctuation or spacing• Several thousand symbols existed; it would take a long time to
learn• Written vertically and horizontally• Being arranged in a pretty layout was extremely important• Like ancient Mesopotamian schools, rich Egyptian families
sent their children to school to become scribes, and it would take several years to finish.
The word Hieroglyphics means “Sacred Drawings”
• Hieroglyphics are a fascinating form of writing, and if you come to Egypt, you can discover the history and culture deeply intertwined with hieroglyphics.
