Forward Chicago is a grassroots all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit that connects neighbors, businesses and local organizations to build a stronger community. Together, we’re creating a neighborhood where people of all ages are active, engaged and influential.

A worldwide trend toward isolationism has also created a groundswell of people calling for togetherness, compassion and a renewed commitment to caring for one another. Each week we see another report about the importance of connection to fight loneliness and the isolation that can impact us at every age and may be especially pertinent as we grow older. It seems counter intuitive in this time of instant communication that more people are feeling isolated, disconnected and alone.

Fostering connection and community in our neighborhoods was, at its inception, one of Forward Chicago’s guiding principles. After 5 years, we continue our work to strengthen bonds from neighbor to neighbor and block to block. This spring and summer are no exception.

Walking group is expanding to another day, Thursdays — an encouraging sign of this group’s commitment to their health, each other and the exploration of our neighborhoods. This group started with one member saying she wanted to walk and look at it now!

With the re-opening of the Davis Theater, we are so pleased to have a monthly movie group starting in April. Get your monthly flick fix with us!

Great Decisions, the nation’s largest discussion group on public affairs, will begin again in June at Sulzer Library. The topics are timely, pertinent and promise to provide a lively and enlightening experience.

Aging Chicago Style: A Users Guide will be held June 24th. This day-long conference will cover a variety of topics that will stimulate our thinking and provide a platform for discussion about issues that impact us all.

Our Science Series continues all summer, with an eye toward the Celestial Event of the Century – the Great Eclipse of 2017 on August 21st. We will partner with Sulzer Library for an Eclipse watching event for all!! In the meantime, check out the programming and be sure to join us.

We’re really looking forward to our Annual Historic Site Scavenger Hunt, where we explore our neighborhood’s gems. You may know some, but you don’t know them all!!!

Craft Circle, Lunch Bunch, Dinner Club, Games People Play, and other groups continue to meet and grow each month – everyone and every age welcome. A special thanks to our Ideas into Action group who truly make things happen. This is what it’s all about!

As always, looking Forward!
