President’s Corner

Hi everybody:

Hope everyone is doing well. Hope everyone had a good summer. The weather is getting better and that makes for better hunting. Hope everyone had a good summer and found some good keepers.

Lorrie Sprigg is our new activity director and if you have any ideas she would appreciate it very much. She has something planed for October and it is in the newsletter.

OCTOBER HUNT: The annual club hunt is this month and there is a information in this newsletter about it. Come on out and enjoy our hunt and picnic.

GREAT FUN, GREAT FOOD AND GREAT PRIZES

If anyone wants to sell their silver to the club I am paying 8 times face. Silver is going down. You can pay your club dues with your silver. This will be used for club activities.

New members: You need to check with Bill Shackelford for the Challengers Program. It is a very good way to get you started hunting for good items.

We have more members that are qualifying for the Hall of Fame. If you find and item and return it to its owner you will have your picture taken and be entered into the Hall of Fame.

We are still collecting items for the Sanford shelter. Please bring in a couple of items and if everyone does this every month this will help the shelter very much. They need stuff bad. HELP THEM OUT.

We are still having new members every month and if you see someone that looks new, speak to them and make them feel welcome.

If you know of anyone who needs our prayers and cards let me know.

If we have not seen your smiling face for awhile; we have missed you, then come to the meeting and bring a stranger.

we have not seen your smiling face for awhile, we have missed you, then come to the meeting and bring a stranger.

President Ray Leist

Secretary’s Report – Chuck Hosbein

The September meeting of the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club was called to order at 7:35 by club president Ray Leist. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Bill Green.

Our joke of the month was about a fairy godmother that came down to a park and brought a couple back for 30 minutes.

We had no guests at the meeting for September. We had two new members join the club in September. Our new members are Molly Hare and Pauline Nelson.

Ray noted that he is still looking for silver. If you have some that you would like to sell, contact Ray. He will be paying the going rate.

Several of our club members had birthdays during September. They were recognized and received silver dimes from the club. No members with anniversaries during September were present.

Ed L’Heureux was our guest speaker for September. Ed discussed pirates, privateers, and treasure during his presentation. He also dispelled many of the myths about pirates. They did not have parrots on their shoulders and the eye patches were used to help with night vision. The most active time for them was a 200-year period between the 1600’s and the 1800’s.

The club’s annual picnic and hunt will be held October 18th at Lake Sylvan Park. Plan on being there by 10:00. Ray indicated that there would be lots of prizes again this year. The club will provide hot dogs and hamburgers. You will need to bring your own drinks. Members with last name starting A thru L are asked to bring desserts and members with last names starting with M thru Z are asked to bring a covered dish. For those hunting, the cost will be $10 per person. No cost for other family members.

Lorrie noted that she raised $54 at the auction for August. There were plenty of items for the auction in September. Lorrie wants to continue with the auction, so keep bringing in items. Lorrie passed out a paper for a “Shipwreck” gathering at the next meeting. Anyone who wants to participate should come dressed up in your best shipwreck attire. Prizes will be awarded for the best “survivor”.

Ray noted that Fred Schimmel passed away. Fred was a long time club member and will be missed.

Ray also noted that the club’s web site is looking great. If you get a chance, check it out.

Donations are still being accepted by Bill Shackelford to help the Christian Center.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15.
