TRANSCRIPT
Tips to Spice Up Your ContentWhen you check your email every morning, do you open each and every newsletter you
receive?
Probably not. Do you log on to LinkedIn and read every blog post since the last time you
visited? Definitely not.
At this point, “content overload” has become a very real phenomenon. A new challenge
posed to marketing professionals is how to provide content that sticks out from the masses.
As if that’s not enough, after years in the industry it can get harder and harder to come up
with fresh content, particularly as user tastes and trends change rapidly.
These five tips can help you produce content that will grab – and keep – the attention of
your readers, helping you maximize your marketing efforts:

Combatting Content Marketing Overload:
5 Tips to Spice Up Your Content
1. Review your Progress
It’s a new year, and there’s no better time than now to review last year’s analytics. Knowing
who is reading your content and which types of content perform best on different platforms
can help you understand your strengths and develop appropriate copy accordingly. You may
think your jokes are hilarious, but if no one is clicking through them it may be time to think
of a new strategy. Remember, people love accessing digital media on smartphones, so make
sure your content is performing well on mobile devices.

2. Clarify Your Goals
Now is also a great time to make sure you have clear objectives for your content-based
campaigns. Do you use social media to promote brand awareness by sharing expert advice
or is it more of a prospecting tool? Knowing what your goal is for your content is the best
way to figure out what form it will take.

3. Make it Easy On the Eyes
Readers probably won’t even notice your content if you only post long blocks of text. Make
sure you break up paragraphs into easy to read sentences, and try and vary your media
styles as much as possible. Post relevant photos and videos, and if all else fails, go with
inspirational quotes!

4. …But Make Sure Your Content is Still Killer!Don’t just post stock images over and over, and definitely don’t post photos of long text.
Consider making your connection with potential customers a bit more personal by
incorporating images of you and the team at work, and copy that provides helpful solutions
and advice.

5. Differentiate Each PlatformA huge mistake marketers make is relying on one piece of content to push across all
platforms. The problem? You’re not taking advantage of the unique features that each
network offers. Knowing what your content strengths are will help you tailor appropriate
content to each platform; if you aren’t great at making videos but you do have a way with
the written word, you don’t want to focus your efforts on uploading to YouTube but may
instead wish to focus on LinkedIn’s blog feature.
