    Columbine Quilters February 2020

Hey everybody, Hope you are all enjoying the winter weather. I’m trying to get

myself organized for a new year. I am my own worst enemy when I comes to

UFOs. I have started a challenge quilt for this year’s show and it’s not one of my

UFOs reworked! February’s meeting will be fun. Remember to bring in your

2019 mystery quilt! Also, look for info in the rest of the newsletter regarding the

program. Cheryl has some fun plans for us. See you on the first!

  • Perhaps an all-night sew-in or a 24-hour sew-in. Judy Sudduth suggested perhaps a sew-day. There was some interest in that, but no interest in the others. Newsletter (Cheryl): Deadline for Newsletter items is still 15th of each month. Cheryl was pleased with the business card advertising at annual rate of $20 same as membership. She has 8 ads now. Publicity (Cheryl): Montrose Daily Press is announcing our meetings regularly now, in their calendar of events. Block of the Month (aka Mystery Quilt 2019): Rebecca Chatham announced that the club had agreed last month to a February meeting deadline challenge to finish the project. Block of the Month (Barb Cencich): 2020 project is “Pot holder of the month.” Barb showed samples of the Chicken pot holder for January (she donated her 2 samples to the BCQS Boutique). She handed out the pattern and shared a few tips on doing the project. She also had a few yellow fabric scraps for the appliquéd chicken beak. By-Laws (Evelyn Kiser): No changes. Hospitality (Marilyn Ayer): Thanked Bette and Rebecca Chatham for today’s refreshments. Sent around the sign-up sheet. February will be Judy Sudduth and Sonia. March will be Cheryl Yergler and Marilyn Ayer. April will be Marilyn Ayer and Kay Frantz. Still a few more spots for volunteers. The list will go around again next meeting. Sunshine: No report Room Set-up: Early arrivals and program chair. Thank-you all. Room Clean up: Last of the sew day participants and program chair. Thank-you all. Historian (Nancy Ballantyne): No report. Photographer (Paula Millsapps): If you don’t see me taking photos, please remind me. I get distracted by quilts easily :). UFO Challenge (Paula Millsapps): Received 6 lists from members (Ann Ballantyne, Nancy Ballantyne, Evelyn Kiser, Cheryl Yergler, Paula Millsapps and ??? I think the “no name” list is Barb. Is that right?) You can still bring in a list of UFOs and join the fun. Old Business:

    • Nancy B. returned the Coloring Book Quilt top. The fabric she planned for the backing wasn’t available. Paula Millsapps took it now.

    • Barb Cencich returned (3) the 25th Anniversary Round Robin Challenge. It still can use some borders, Rebecca Chatham took it now. (2)Cheryl Yergler returned the Angel Block 25th Anniversary Round Robin Challenge Quilt Finished. Yeah! It is ready to go to charity. Rebecca Chatham is finishing a border on the 4th quilt top and will be passing it to Paula Millsapps, who will add another border. And (1) was already finished and sent to charity.

    • Nancy B. brought some pages from Georgie’s pattern collection for anyone interested. Today’s patterns were for candle mats, but many could be adapted to quilt blocks. New Business:

    • Sally Nichols put crochet items, patterns and threads on the giveaway table. • Sally Nichols brought in another huge bag of quilt magazines from Georgie’s Quilt Studio for the giveaway table. Show and Tell:

    • Cheryl Y. showed finished 10 UFOs most were for charity. She also showed 3 finished charity quilts that she and Evelyn Kiser worked on together.

    • Sonja showed the x-ray of her broken hand and 6 Christmas quilts from her collection that she hasn’t shown before. 2020 Budget: 2020 Treasurer, Nancy Ballantyne asked members to submit to her 2020 budget requests and she will come up with a tentative budget to be discussed next month. Audit of the Books: The auditors will meet and make their report at a future meeting. With no further business, Vice President, Sally Nichols adjourned the meeting for snack and program at 10:20 am. Program: 10 minute self-binding baby blanket, Butterfly Baby Blanket (shaped to fit easily in car seats), and burp cloths where demonstrated, donated fabric handed out to sewers, patterns traced for members to take home (Butterfly blanket and burp cloth). Written instruction and video for 10 minute blanket were sent to members by email. Judy Sudduth and Marilyn Ayer hand stitched Columbine Quilt Club labels on many charity quilts. Sonja and Barb C. each finished a charity doll quilt for The Black Canyon Quilt Show Boutique. Janet (guest and now new member) made a 10 minute quilt, as did Sonja, Paula and Barb. Other members took patterns and fabric to work at home and/or helped with cutting, pressing, pattern making etc. A fun and productive sew-day. Respectively submitted Paula Joan Millsapps, secretary

    Upcoming Programs

    Ugly fabric challenge

February 2020 Meeting - "everyone bring in at least one yard of the ugliest quilting fabric they can

    find in their stash."

    At the meeting

Show and Tell - have everyone sit in a circle. First, have a show and tell about the fabric. WHY IN

THE WORLD DID YOU BUY THAT FABRIC???? WHAT POSSESSED YOU? This

part is a lot of fun and laughs.

    http://www.blackcanyonquiltshow.com/http://www.blackcanyonquiltshow.com/http://www.blackcanyonquiltshow.com/

  • Next you are going to do a fabric swap of a different kind! Have everyone pass their piece of fabric to

the person on their right. Each person should tear the piece of fabric they just received in half (bring a

pair of scissors to the meeting, as some fabric is hard to start a tear.) Place one half of the torn fabric

in their "stash" under their chair. Pass the other half to the right person on their right.

Tear the piece you just received in half. Place half in your "stash", pass the other half. (Each person

should now have two new pieces of fabric in their stash.) Tear the piece you just received in half,

pass one piece and put the other in your stash............. Keep repeating this process until the fabric

goes all the way around, about 6 inch squares. Everyone now has a new stash of ugly fabric!

Hmmmm.....what should we do with this?

Come back in April with a top completed with your new stash.

March Program - Sue from LadyBugz +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Don’t forget to make your 2020 UFO (Un-Finished Objects) list. Bring a copy to Paula at the next meeting or

    Georgie's Notebooks Live On

In January I brought some of Georgie's patterns, but since there was so much that Sally brought, I will bring

January and February patterns. Remember January was pieced and appliqué candle mats.

For February I will bring paper piecing Hearts and Flowers patterns. I thought that would be appropriate for

Valentine month. Georgie collected a very interesting variety of patterns and she wanted to make them all. So

for the February meeting, I'll bring small pieced and appliqué and paper piecing patterns in flowers and hearts.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget to send your budget items to Nancy B. She would like to have a budget for us

at the February meeting. [email protected]
