The event was also the Area D Qualifying Event for entry to the US Sailing Adult National Championship. Two teams qualified to compete in this year’s Championship to be held August 22-25 in Rochester, NY. They were our own Team USA-555 as well as Murder, Inc. The Championship of Champions needs You! Why: To offer a place to stay for visiting sailors

For Whom: Current National or North American ChampionsFor What Reason: The forthcoming US Sailing’s Annual Regatta

When: October 24, 25, and 26What’s Needed: A bed and bath accommodation.

Note: This is one of the most honored competitions in North America since 1976. US Sailing selects winners in numerous classes and

places them into one class to compete. This year the class is the Lightning class.

Contact [email protected] if you can share the hospitality that CSC has been known for throughout the racing community!

Things continue to run smoothly at CSC, thanks to all the volunteers that pitch in and help out. There are a few items we are currently working on. One is the walk ramp that attaches to the front docks. We recently noticed a crack at the attachment point. The Manufacturer was contacted and is in the process repairing / reinforcing all of the docks. The other project you may have noticed is the drainage issue in the back circle parking area. All the rain that we have received over the past few months has caused a wash out. We are in the process of adding rock and grading to temporarily repair this problem until a more permanent solution can be worked out.

Plans continue for the US Sailing Championship of Champions. The time is drawing near and Jan is busy as always, making sure that this will be another fantastic CSC sailing event. But your help is needed! There is something for everyone, shore based events as well as on the water activities. If you can help out please contact Jan and volunteer.

Thursday evening Dinghy races just wrapped up and a great time was had by all. A great turnout, great sailing (most weeks) and great food. What more could you ask for? Thanks to all the folks that made it happen.

Next Board meeting September 4th, 6:30. Hope to see you around the club soon, until next time. Richard.

CSC AUXILIARY NEWSby

Debra Ke$y, President

It has been a soggy summer with a lot more rain than most of us needed. As of mid August we haven't had any of those typical 100 degree days! And now it’s almost time for school to start.

It’s been a great summer for spending time on the club beach with CSC family and friends. There's plenty of time before the fall chill so come on down to the beach and have a drink

with some friends before the summer days slip away. Many thanks to Jan Jernigan, PRO, and her race committee of Sarah Weiss, Rebecca Dotterer, Kim

Milling, Cindy Hamilton, Kim McGill and our one and only Ted Koberg for officiating the LMYRA Single-handed race on July 13th . The evening was very unpredictable with the threat of another rain storm. But with the help of Johnny Dotterer, Mark Alexander, Daivd Parshall, Crawford Milling, John Young, and Rick McGill, we were able to get a race in the books. Oh, and let’s not forget the wonderful food the ladies always provide!  And, YES - it even tasted good in the rain. Right, John?!

CSCA has a very busy fall planned so please mark your calendars for September 10th . This will be our first meeting after the summer break so call a CSCA friend and come join us for dinner at 6:30PM.  The business meeting starts at 7PM. Redick Loring and Sandi Helms will be preparing the meal for us.

BINGO!  That’s right.  Steak and Bingo returns to CSC on September 20th at 6:30pm. Our wonderful chef Kenny Brown is going to cook our delicious steaks while we try to rake in some bingo prizes. The cost is $15.00 per person. Please RSVP to (803)-261-1948, or e-mail [email protected] . Bring family and friends to this great evening of fun.

The Outback Regatta is September 27th – 29th and CSCA will be creating those famous burgers for lunch on Sunday, September 29th. Please give Barbara Brothers a call and let her know what time you would be available to help. Thanks. Sailing On Together into Fall. . . Debra Kelly.

From the EditorIt seems the transition to some Telltale deliveries by email is going well. Please let me

know if you are having any problems getting the newsletter. I have been asked if I can send the electronic version to other email addresses (spouses, offices, etc). The Telltale currently goes to the Yahoo group. If you would like to add an

address for an additional e-version of the Telltale, please send an email to [email protected]. Please do not send these requests to my normal email address.

Thanks. Mark Alexander.

LMYRA Tiller Talkby Hootie Bushardt

It looks like we had a four peat. The winds were perfect again for LMYRA summer race 4. The winds were 8 to 10 all evening. We had another great race. It was amazing: with all the rain we had this summer the weather was perfect for all the summer evening races. That said it is raining again as I am writing this and it rained all day Saturday.

The race committee was headed my Jim Edwards with a crew of Dick Dommel, Jim Evans, and Ted Koberg.  The winds were from the south-west. RC set the starting line west of the towers. The windward mark was anchored 1mile north-east of Harborside (next point east of Lands End). The windward-leeward 4 mile course was twice around using the pin as the leeward mark. The race was perfect except at the very end of the race a huge gust came through and gave a challenge to the sailors still on the course.

Fall Skippers Meeting: The Fall Skippers meeting is Friday evening, September 6 at Columbia Sailing Club at 7:00. Registration will be from 6:00 to 7:00.

Fall Registration: I have placed the new fall registration form on the website – lmyra.org. Please fill out the form and send it in to make it easier at the registration table at the Fall Skipper’s meeting. There are a few changes requested in the form by Wayne Hale. If you have any questions about filling out the form, email Wayne Hale at [email protected].

Outback Cup Regatta: I know everyone is looking forward to the 14th Annual Outback CupRegatta that will be held on Sept 28th and 29th. Make sure you mark the dates on your calendar and keep checking the LMYRA website for the Notice of Race.  Please support this event by signing up early.  Remember you get a free Outback hat with early registration.  This event is shaping up to be another awesome party and regatta.

Summer Thursday Evening Dinghy Series Sails into the Sunset

! We had a great Summer Sunfish and Laser series this year, only calling off one evening of sailing. With more than 30 boats registered, and usually 15 or so out each Thursday, there was great competition sailing throughout the fleets. The sailors had to deal with varying conditions, from hanging on downwind surfing and hiking hard upwind, to ghosting in light breezes.! Thanks to all the Members who served us wonderful meals each week, usually feeding more than 30 hungry folks each Thursday: Pat and Bill Freeman, Kim Milling, Melissa and Steve Symanski, Marybeth Mahrer, Pat Freeman and Dan Clayton, Debra and John Hudson, Karen Counts, Redick Loring, Debra Kelly and Sandra Burgess, Maria DeHart and Beverly Beauregard, Peggy and Ben Rast and Rick McGill, and the many others who pitched in to make the after sailing meals such a success. ! The Race Committee ran races over 9 Thursdays, only canceling once, many times starting races immediately after the final boat finished. Thanks to John Dotterer, RC Chairman, Rebecca Dotterer, Kim Milling. Mike Lambert, Jim Edwards, Ted Koberg, Dan Clayton, Reece and Nancy Williams, and all the others who helped on the Committee boat, scoring, starting and dodging evening thunder storms, trying to get in as much sailing as possible in only about an hour.! Our Mark/Safety boat was dutifully manned by Hans Nussler, Thomas Kelly, and Kyle Burgess each week, pulling and moving 4 marks each night, chasing the shifting winds around the lake and keeping a watchful eye on the sailors. Thanks.
