Science
“There is no doubt that science — and, therefore, science education — is central to the lives of all Americans. Never before has our world been so complex and science knowledge so critical to making sense of it all. When comprehending current events, choosing and using technology, or making informed decisions about one’s healthcare, science understanding is key. Science is also at the heart of the United States’ ability to continue to innovate, lead, and create the jobs of the future.” -Next Generation Science Standards (adopted by the State of New Jersey in 2014 and the basis for curricular changes that will go into effect in the 2016-2017 school year.)

Strategies for Healthy and Happy
Learners…
• Sleep is necessary – get it.
• Turn the phones OFF! Charge them on a different floor or in a different room. Control them. Don’t let them control you.
• Schedule “Family Time”… talk about school. But sometimes, DON’T talk about school.
• Remember to be a…kid.
• Get exercise. And fresh air.
• Ask for HELP!
• Discuss, define and expect accountability from each other.
• Support: Guidance Counselors (3 counselors dedicated to 9th grade students only), Student Assistance Counselors, 2 Special Services Dept. Social Workers, Grade Level Assistant Principals, The Loft/Family Connections
The Loft
Open during lunch periods and after school.
And by appointment.
Socialize. Do community service.
Small-group
supports and
counseling.
Be with friends. Find a friend. Be a friend.
Learn new skills.
Family involvement.
Homework support.
Field trips. Fun.

In the year of life's hard struggle We care not what's in store, For thy motto is our motto And our cry "Excelsior!”
Excelsior: More lofty; still higher; ever upward.
(From the Latin excellere.)
