Colour Representation

Red – The colour red is very conventional in the horror genre, especially in the teen/slasher sub genre. The colour red connotes danger and violence, and in particular blood. This enables and audience to instantly recognize the colour red with the teen/slasher sub genre.

Black – The colour black is often linked with darkness and dark themes, it also portrays a sense of mystery and the unknown.

Existing Horror colour schemes

From the existing horror covers we can see a conventional pattern of black, red and dark greys. all of these colours are conventional and make the posters look effective in creating a scary and appealing image. Also the use of the white font overthe black background is very popular in these successful covers. The covers psycho and sinister are the two main colour schemes I’d like tocombine to create my own colour scheme.

Potential colour schemes

The bold red colour scheme connotes danger and blood, the second colour would work better in my poster as it a distorted effect and carries a sense of mystery which links in with my trailer.

The bold black colour scheme connotes darkness which is a main theme in my trailer. It is very common in horror. However I believe the second colour scheme is again more effective as it has a chilling and sinister edge to it, making it Suitable for my trailer.

The grey colour is a less conventional colour in the horror genre, however I believe it gives my work an aspect of the unknown and creates a sense of mystery.
