Introduction Colorado Gives Day is an initiative of Community First Foundation to

increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving. Launched in 2010

with remarkable success, the second annual Colorado Gives Day did not

disappoint. In fact, the number of donations through the GivingFirst.org

website increased by 160% with a 73% increase in the number of

participating nonprofits. Total dollars distributed to 928 nonprofits reached

$12.8 million, a 46% increase over 2010.

Corporate partner FirstBank, seven media partners (see last page) and

hundreds of nonprofits joined together to ask Coloradans to “give where you

live” on December 6, 2011. The event was extended to noon on December

7, resulting in a total of 36 hours of online giving. FirstBank contributed

$500,000 to be used for the FirstBank Incentive Fund ($300,000), third-party

processing fees ($140,000) and “High Five” prizes ($60,000). In addition, all

third-party processing fees were paid for by FirstBank, Community First

Foundation and ten Colorado foundations, so that 100% of every donation

benefited the participating nonprofits.

New this year was the addition of two types of prizes. Bonus Bucks gave

local businesses an opportunity to show their support, and provided 36

donors with an additional $1,000 to add to their randomly selected

donations. FirstBank’s new High Five prizes awarded 12 nonprofits $5,000

each for their remarkable achievements in four performance categories:

1. Most dollars raised, 2. Most donors, 3. Largest percent increase in dollars

over Colorado Gives Day 2010, and 4. Most dollars raised through

GivingFirst Fundraising Pages.

About this Report Data for this report were gathered from activity tracked through

GivingFirst.org and a survey of the participating nonprofits. This report

What We Know About the Nonprofits

What were the results by county? The Colorado state map below shows the number of charities, number of donations and dollars raised by

nonprofit county and the percent change in dollars raised over Colorado Gives Day 2010 (where applicable).

In a collaborative spirit, several nonprofits combined resources in 2011 to make an even greater

local impact on Colorado Gives Day. Collaborations took place in communities such as Arvada,

Boulder County, Eagle County/Vail Valley, Evergreen, Pikes Peak, and Weld County.

(earned prizes worth $5,000 each). These prizes added $96,000 worth of addi-

tional dollars for 47 nonprofits.

cant response rate of 65% (620 organizations). Specifically, survey results re-

vealed the following about new donors:

49% of nonprofits on Colorado Gives Day reported as least one lapsed

donor (donors who had not given to a responding organization for two or

more years).

12% of nonprofits received $5,000 or more from first-time donors.
