Flex-C-Ment’s Color Hardener is a blend of cement, finely graded aggregates and iron-oxide pigments. When applied to Flex-C-Ment’s stampable overlay system or cast in place ready mix concrete provides coloration to the surface as well as added compressive strength to the surface, making it more abrasive and impact resistant. Flex-C-Ment’s Color Hardener is designed to work with imprinting tools to produce clear, sharp impressions that enhance the finished appearance of any new lardscape.

Flex-C-Ment’s Color Hardener is used in the construction of new concrete flatwork and floors. It can be troweled and broomed, or imprinted, using Flex-C-Ment or equivalent type Texture Mats and Flex-C-Ment’s Liquid Release. Create the look of expensive materials such as handset tile, brick or quarried stone with by using a Flex-C-Ment powdered release on case in place color hardened ready mix in a contrasting color. The color-hardend surface can also be stained, after the concrete has been allowed to cure for approximately 28 days. Flex-C-Ment’s color hardener may also be used on Flex-C-Ment’s overlay mix in the same manner yet it is not recommended to use powdered release instead using Flex-C-Ment’s Bubble Gum Liquid Release and achiev-ing antiquing coloration with Flex-C-Ment’s liquid coloring process. Flex-C-Ment’s Color Hard-ener is also used to achieve a more durable surface with added compressive strength for abrasive and wear resistance.

Flex-C-Ment Color Hardener must be installed over stable substrate using proper preparation and installation procedures. All expansion/cut joints in the existing substrate must be honored. Extra joints may be added as deemed necessary by the installer. Flex-C-Ment Color Hardener must be used with the Flex-C-Ment standards and procedures for the Flex-C-Ment warranty to be valid. These have been chemically engineered to be compatible with Flex-C-Ment products to provide the maximum physical properties and prevent loss of bond to the substrate. When working with or near this product, all personnel must wear OSHA-NIOSH approved respirators (refer to OSHA standards in 29 CFR 1910.134). Avoid inhalation and use of local exhaust to keep exposures below OSHA PEL’s for silica and nuisance dust. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear rubber gloves and aprons to protect skin and wear safety eye goggles. Wash splatters from skin immediately. Use good hygiene when handling this product and wash/bathe after each use. Close containers after each use. Be sure to wash clothing after each use.

In general, the more aggressive the finished surface, the greater the coefficient of friction and corresponding skid resistance, the more difficult to clean. The smoother the finished texture, the easier the surface is to clean, but there is a loss of skid resistant properties. Cleaning and disinfecting compounds and cleaning techniques can affect the color, gloss, texture and performance of the system. As the precautionary step, Flex-C-Ment recommends that the end-user test their cleaning and disinfecting compounds on a non-conspicuous area before use. Follow sealer manufacturer recommendations for maintenance and cleaning. Slip resistance is greatly effected by the sealers and texture used. Approximate Surface area coverage for Color Hardener 100-200 square feet per 50 lb. pail of Flex-C-Ment Color Hardener. Coverage rate may vary depending on amount of Color Hardener applied.

If properly stored, the expected shelf life can exceed 6 months. However, it is recommended that Flex-C-Ment Color Hardener be used as soon as possible after delivery. Rotate stock to use oldest inventory first. Store under roof and keep dry.
