From Our Board President

Fellow Members,

Hello 2019!! I hope the New Year is off to a great start for each of you. I

am very honored to serve as your Club President this year. As I move into this

role, I would like to thank the past board for their dedication and service; they

made a real difference for our club. Thank you in advance to our incoming

board members, I am grateful for your support.

Exciting things are in store for Colonial Country Club in 2019 (if it ever

stops raining!!). Addison and staff are working hard to get the course ready for

another amazing golf season. Ben and team are ready to provide you with all

your golf needs. Kim and staff are gearing up for tennis and the opening of the

pool. Last but certainly not least, David and Eric have an awesome year

planned with new and exciting events and menus. Take time to let them all

know how much we appreciate their hard work and commitment and please

call or email to make reservations to ensure the highest level of service.

Soon our club will kick off an important membership drive; tell all your

friends and family about Colonial. Our club is a special place; let’s share it with

others!

Please do not hesitate to let your board or staff know of any issues,

comments, suggestions or ideas that could make the club a better experience

for all.

See you at the club,

Dan Outlaw

President, Board of Directors

I hope everyone is like me and is ready for warmer

weather. The past month has been a cold one and

with the snow we have had it definitely makes it feel

like winter time.

As we know it has been cold outside and there has

been little golf. Addison and his staff have been

working hard at keeping the greens protected, as well

as the rest of the course. We are hoping for an early

spring, but as we know that is up to mother nature.

We now have the new board of directors in place and

they will be working hard to make sure 2019 is a

great year as we continue to grow the Club. Each

committee member will start looking at what they

can do to make Colonial great and have a successful

year.

Tony Hill will be our new Membership Chair and he

will be working on ideas for a Spring Membership

Drive. Once he comes up with some ideas he will

present them to the Board for discussion and

approval. As we all know, growing the membership

is the key to the future of the Club. Colonial is a

great place and with the local community growing,

there will be many families that will call Colonial

their second home.

Don’t forget to sign up for the Valentines Dinner,

Chef Eric has came up with a great menu for you to

enjoy. We also have a Murder Mystery Dinner

planned for Saturday, February 23rd and this will be a

fun event that you don’t want to miss. Talk to your

friends and then call the Club to sign up.

Delaney Hart our Banquet Event Director has been

busy booking events at the Club. Our banquet

business is better than budget for the fiscal year. If

you are planning any events, whether personal or

business, give Delaney a call.

So, let’s hope for an early Spring and put this cold

winter weather behind us.

CCC Book Club Meeting

Thursday, February 14th 10:30am

Please join us for book club on Thursday, February 14th at 10:30am.

New members are welcome to join at any time. Plan to stay for lunch

after the meeting!

Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.

Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut. She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests. Most of them don’t look to be in need of a health resort at all. But the person that intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House. Could this person really have the answers Frances didn’t even know she was seeking? Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer – or should she run while she still can?

It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question.

Combining all of the hallmarks that have made her writing a go-to for anyone looking for wickedly smart, page-turning fiction that will make you laugh and gasp, Liane Moriarty’s Nine Perfect Strangers once again shows why she is a master of her craft.

Ben Miller, PGA Head Golf Professional

I would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting our

rules seminar. We had over 60 members and guests come out to

support the event put on by the CGA. This was a very enjoyable

and educational seminar. If you were not able to make the

seminar, you may go to the USGA website to get more

information about what was covered that evening.

I realized that last time I was on the golf course there were lots of

divots without sand in them and a number of ball marks that had

not been fixed on the greens. With all the rain and soft

conditions, the ball marks are deeper than normal and the divots

are larger than normal, so the better we maintain our golf course

now, the better it will be when the golf course grows back in. We

as golfers are responsible for damage that we make to the course

and it is always better to leave the golf course in better shape than

we found it. Thanks for everyone’s efforts in helping maintain

our golf course.

I just want to let everyone know that in the next 4-6 weeks there

will be a lot of new inventory for the golf shop starting to arrive

for the 2019 golf season. I am working with all the different club

manufacturers to get several demo days set up for everyone in the

next couple months as well, so be on the lookout for these

upcoming demo days.

2019 has started about the same as 2018 ended with cold and wet weather.

The good news is we are getting closer to Spring each day. The golf course

will have been closed 19 out of the 31 days in January due to the greens

being covered, and there haven’t been many good days mixed in between that

would be considered good weather for golf. With that being said, we are

hopeful for a better month weather wise in February.

With the wet weather, it has been hard for us to get a lot of equipment out on

the course for various projects so we have used this time to completely

revamp our mechanic’s shop and office so we will be better organized and

more efficient during the season.

We plan to get started on our bunker detail as soon as the weather allows.

This will include: re-defining edges, moving sand around for consistent

depths, and adding new sand where needed. Our goal is to get the bunkers

playing consistent across the course when all is said and done.

When the weather breaks and you are finally able to enjoy a round of golf,

please be mindful of the fact that there are going to continue to be wet areas

all throughout the golf course, and they will probably be there the remainder

of winter if we continue to get rain. I try to be as generous as possible with

the cart restrictions, so please know that if carts are on the paths there is a

good reason for it. Also, even if I allow carts off the paths please be aware

that some areas of that hole might still be wet and carts need to be kept out of

these areas. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach

out to me.

I hope to see you all on the course soon which will mean we finally have

some decent weather!
