More details to follow on where classes will be relocated. MORE NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY: The Library Book Selection Committee has recently purchased 78 new books for the Collington library. To make it easier for residents to find these books among the shelves, beginning September 1, 2017, the newly purchased books as well as those donated to us will be categorized by tag, i.e., mystery, mystery paperback, fiction, biography, etc. as well as publication date. That list will be placed in the binder of Newly Acquired Books available just as you walk in the front door of the library. We hope that this will make searching for just the right book a little easier. Reminder: The Library Committee meeting will be September 11, 10AM in the RA Office. Starting Friday, September 8, Collington's Sustainability Committee begins a 13-week project focused on these goals. Tigar, Professor Emeritus of Law at both Duke University School of Law and Washington College of Law at American University, will speak on “Holding Tyrants Accountable: Cases About Chile.” REMINDER: There will be no September Woodshop meeting. The next meeting will be October 2. NEIGHBOR TALKS COMMITTEE: A long-established Residents Association program is undergoing major refocus and regeneration. The Know Your Neighbor Committee has taken on a new name, intentionally more consistent with its purpose and goal. Our new NEIGHBOR TALKS will be offered in the Auditorium monthly beginning September, on the third Tuesday evenings at 7PM. The organizing committee will meet fourth Tuesdays in the Board Room at 4PM. Interested residents are invited to attend either or both. No access to woodshop. Low – moderate access to Main Loop road. No access to covered parking spaces or parking spaces across from these. No overnight parking on 9/1 at these yellow highlighted areas. Vehicles can return to park at 7PM on 9/2) September 5th: Pave/Lay New Asphalt in Apartment Parking Lot (Note: High inconvenience. Entire parking lot needs to be clear of vehicles by 7AM. A sit-down service at the Mount Vernon Inn offers lunch or you can eat at The Mount Vernon Food Court Pavilion. DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION MUSEUM & THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR MUSEUM, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, WASHINGTON, DC: We will depart from Security at 10AM; the bus will drop you off at the DAR Museum. You will take a self-guided tour around the DAR Museum and then walk across the street (using C Street) to head to the Department of Interior Museum. The basement floor and the first floor will be self-guided. The Stewart Lee Udall Department of the Interior Building walking tour will be at 2PM and lasts approximately one hour and focuses on the history of the building and the Department via a selection of more than 40 New Deal-era painted murals, plus photographic murals by Ansel Adams. The tour will depart from the C Street lobby just inside the entrance at 1849 C Street, N.W. A museum guide will meet the group in the C Street lobby.
