All, including visiting relatives and guests, are welcome to join to celebrate the vigil of the birth of Christ. A printed program will be provided. A MESSAGE FROM RIA HAWKINS: I want to thank the many residents who sent cards and messages with “get well” wishes when I had a heart attack 4 weeks ago, and then again sent condolences in the form of hugs, messages, and cards when Ted died. You all, staff included, make this an extremely caring and supportive community. My family have been amazed as they observe this outpouring of caring. Your support is a great help at this difficult time. CULLING THE DEER POPULATION AT COLLINGTON: As in previous years, BOW Hunters will be here to cull the deer population and reduce the risks associated with a large population of deer on campus. The hunters have been organized and led by a seasoned bow hunter with 20 years of experience. The lead hunter also works in senior living and is sensitive to the type of community we have. They will hunt from 6 AM to Sunset. The hunters will be hunting from elevated tree stands. Any deer culled will be processed and depending on how much is culled, will be donated to the local food bank. Thanks to the grounds committee for restarting this conversation regarding the deer management process.

stepped up this week to enrich and represent our Community:
• On Monday, Lorrie Rogers organized and presented a MACCRA event that connected our community to our legislators, State Senator Joanne Benson, and State Representatives Erek Barron, Jazz Lewis and Andrea Harrison. A very successful event by all accounts.
• On Tuesday, Lois Brown, Annette Festerman, Helen Hindinger, Diane
Hoover, Pat Howard, Carol Kempske, Joyce Koch, Nancy Lively, Mike McCulley, Delores Padron, and Eloise Scott handed out the Employee Appreciation Fund checks to our employees. Lois Brown, Bud Gardiner, John Hindinger, Suku Powers, and Sandy Short were the photographers who documented this happy event.
• On Wednesday, Nancy Lively (she conducted a tour), Ardyce Asire,
Jeanne Edwards, Rita Gardiner, Suzanne Gimbrere, Pat Pritz, and Ernestine Tucker joined the CARF surveyors and shared their thoughts and experiences.
• Wednesday evening, Sipra and Glen Johnson and the speakers
committee, once again brought an extraordinary speaker to Collington. Dr. Ellen Silbergeld, a woman of international renown, spoke on the drugs the bugs are defeating - antibiotics. A fascinating and important world health issue. If you have not attended any of the Speakers Committee monthly events, be sure to check them out.
• Finally, thanks to Nancy Brown who has agreed to edit this column.

Collington’s Strategic Journey
Update on Health Services Alliance Activities: Our architect firm, SFCS, is moving quickly to start sharing their optional configurations for the upgrade to the Creighton Center and fitness facilities. They are still collecting surveys from residents, with a few days left before the cut-off date (see this week’s RA message for details).
On December 12 the entire team was at Collington to get views, ideas, and suggestions from several groups of health and fitness staff. On December 19 the Alliance will have a long-distance meeting to hear the architect’s report on both the survey of residents and the input from staff, and to go through the first
round of optional designs. You’ll read more about all this in next week’s Courier. From Marian Fuchs, on behalf of the Health Services Alliance.

Get Stronger for the HOLIDAYS!
It is Holiday time at Collington and with so many events and activities, it is good to prepare by keeping active!
*Exercise, hydration and a well-balanced diet will keep you healthy throughout the holiday season!
• Go for a brisk walk. Consider going for a walk indoors, outdoors or even at the mall.
• Create a personal goal. It is best to work out for a small amount of time each day. Whether it’s lifting weights or walking, just doing a bit each day promotes healthy physical fitness. Not only is this easier to commit to, but it’s less draining.
• Resistance Training. Incorporating strengthening exercises into a daily routine can help strengthen muscles and possibly reduce pain.
• Take a Collington Fitness Class! Try a few classes and encourage others to join you! In any fitness format, you can always modify to increase or decrease the intensity of your exercise.
