Call to Worship

Leader: The Day of Pentecost is here! God's children have

gathered in this place:

People: we are transformed into God's family by God's Spirit

joining with ours.

Leader: Come, Spirit of adoption, and open our hearts to our

sisters and brothers:

People: Come, Holy Spirit!

Leader: Come, Spirit of peace, and calm our trembling hearts:

People: Come, Holy Spirit!

Leader: Come, Breath of God, and overturn our conventional

lives:

People: Come, Holy Spirit!

*Hymn - “There’s a Sweet, Sweet Spirit” PH #398

*Prayer of Confession

Leader: It is easy to assume we are on our own; Jesus has left us

behind to take care of things. But if we rely only on

ourselves, we quickly fall into lives that do not reflect

faithfulness. Like the first believers, we can join our

voices, praying that God's Spirit will come to us,

bringing grace and hope. Join me as we pray,

All: It is never easy for us to enter this time of confession,

Abba God, for we have trouble believing our failures,

our lives, our sins compare in any way to the evil and

violence of our world. Yet our hearts are troubled

when we think of how we feast on the pain of others;

we are dismayed when we remember how we turn

away from those in need; we are afraid to be totally

dependent on you.

Page 5: COLLINGSWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH · Welcome and Announcements We welcome you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ! Please sign the guest book in the narthex so we can send you a welcome

Forgive us, Gracious God. In your mercy, gather us up

and embrace us with your love. Open our hearts to

receive your Spirit that we might live more faithful

lives. Fill us with the peace of Jesus Christ, our Lord

and Savior, in whose name we pray.

Silence is kept

Assurance of Pardon

Leader: God's Spirit prays with us and for us; God's hope

strengthens us in times of weakness; God's grace heals

our brokenness.

People: God's forgiveness restores us to new life and new

service. Thanks be to God, to whom we sing our

praises for ever and ever. Amen.

*Congregational Response - PH #322

“Spirit of the Living God”

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

*Sharing of the Peace

Leader: The peace of Christ be with you.

People: And also with you.

PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD

Children’s Sermon

(There is no Sunday School today. All children are to remain in service.)

Questions

*Profession of Faith - The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,

And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by

the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius

Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell;

the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into

heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father

Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the

dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the

communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of

the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Litany of Faith (Brief Catechism of the PCUSA) Leader: Who are you? People: I am a child of God. Leader: What does it mean to be a child of God? People: That I belong to God, who loves me. Leader: What makes you a child of God? People: Grace - God’s free gift of love that I do not deserve and cannot earn. Leader: Don’t you have to be good for God to love you? People: No. God loves me in spite of all I do wrong. Leader: How do you thank God for this gift of love? People: I promise to love and trust God with all my heart. Leader: How do you love God? People: By worshiping God, by loving others, and by respecting what God has created. Leader: What did God create? People: God created all that is, seen and unseen. Offering As heirs of God, all things are ours. God makes it possible

for us to be generous. Let us not shrink from the greater works to which we are called, but respond in creative ways to the

possibilities given us to grow and serve in Jesus’ name. Bring your gifts with joy.

There is NO Sunday School today. Children in Prek-5th grade will remain in service to celebrate the confirmation Sunday.

Last week, the children learned “Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right. “Honor your mother and father” is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, “so you will live well and have a long life.”

There is NO Sunday School next week as it is Memorial Day week-end.

The following week, on June 2, we will be celebrating first communion. Since the children will all be in service that day, I am requesting they come early so that we may practice our Sunday School Song for Youth Sunday. Please come at 10am on Sunday June 2, and on Sunday June 9th.

**We are in need of Sunday School teachers for Summer**

Please see Gretchen Kolecki if you would like to help.

*We will also need volunteers for VBS which will be July 14th -18th*

If you have a child in Sunday School, please join our Facebook page: Collingswood Presbyterian Church Sunday School.

Special honors to our own Fred Heuser who retires from 31 years of service to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. Fred was the Executive Director of the Presbyterian Historical Society located in Philadelphia. The Historical Society houses the rec-ords of the Presbyterian denomination and many churches around the world. This archival history is critical for the denomination and its churches. Minutes of more than 200 years of national meetings, oral and video re-cordings of historical events and art work depicting our history are housed in the building as well.

We are very proud of Fred and his work in this part of our Church. We are even prouder of being part of a denomination that honors the past lives and actions of faith that challenge us and encourage our faith today. Read more at http://www.pcusa.org/news/2013/5/14/blessed-be-blessing/
