Students must earn a minimum total of 29 credits in grades 9 through 12 to graduate. IBDP students must also complete the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge course, and fulll the requirements of Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS).

At this time, ISD does not rank students or provide percentile information. Aside from the exceptional case described below*, we also do not supply GP/GPA or Cumulative GPA information on our transcripts. ISD recently adopted the 1-7 IB grading scale for all students grades 6-12.

N.B. Prior to 2016-17, standards-based grade reporting used an evaluation scale ranging from 1 to 4 in 0.5 increments: a 1 indicates an emerging level of achievement, a 2 indicates approaching, a 3 indicates procient, and a 4 indicates exemplary.

Courses taken at other high schools are not incorporated into a student’s ISD transcript, and in such cases, a separate transcript document may be provided for application purposes. If required, the IB is able to send official transcripts directly to higher education institutions; requests should be made to ISD before student results are released. Any questions about ISD graduation requirements, grading policies, predicted IB grades, and official transcripts should be directed to Angela Blackmer, ISD College & Career Counselor, by email at [email protected].

*For the graduating class of 2017 only, to ensure fairness in grade reporting during this transition period from the previous grading system, the ISD administration has agreed to report a weighted GPA of all grades earned at ISD during the 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2015-16 academic years. The weighted GPA is calculated as follows: for each grade 11 IB course taken at standard level (SL), 0.5 point will be added to the reported semester grade, and for each grade 11 IB course taken at the higher level (HL), 1.0 point will be added to the the reported semester grade. Non-IB grades earned in grades 9-10, as well as grades earned in grade 11 IB Theory of Knowledge, are included in the GPA at face value (unweighted). Grades earned at other schools are not included in the GPA calculation. No GPA will be calculated for IB grades earned during the 2016-17 academic year.

SECONDARY SCHOOL PROGRAMS

ISD offers a North American High School Diploma (HSD) Program and the IB Diploma Program. For more information on the IB Diploma Program, please visit http://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/.

Additionally, ISD offers a wide variety of co-curricular activities in which students are encouraged to participate, including athletics, leadership, visual/performing arts, and community service.

SCHOOL CALENDAR

The academic year is comprised of two semesters. The rst semester begins in August and ends in January, and the second semester begins in January and ends in June. There are 180 school days in total.

ISD FACULTY

ISD employs 55 multinational, certied, professional educational staff. With the exception of our French and Mandarin teachers, all classroom teachers are native English speakers. Thirty-one staff members hold graduate degrees (master’s level or higher).

ACCREDITATIONS & MEMBERSHIPS

ISD is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and recognized by the National Center for Curriculum Study and Textbook Development (NCCT), the Chinese accrediting agency for international schools. We are an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program school. ISD is also a member of two regional professional organizations for international schools: ACAMIS (Association of Chinese and Mongolian International Schools) and EARCOS (East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools).

SCHOOL & COMMUNITY

The International School of Dongguan (ISD) was founded in 2012 to serve the educational needs of expatriate and dual-citizenship families residing in Dongguan and surrounding areas. Originally a pre-K to grade 10 school, ISD has grown rapidly and now offers a full pre-K to grade 12 program. The current student enrollment is 357 (including 117 students in grades 6-12); the class of 2018 represents our fth graduating class and the second IB DP cohort.

ISD was developed and is managed by International Schools Services (ISS). ISS has been involved with international education since 1955, and currently there are four other ISS managed or owned schools in China. These schools are located in Dalian, Beihai, Shekou and Nansha.
