Chevalier T.Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, established in the
year 1985 by Dr. Elizabeth Thomas to fulfill the dream of her husband
Chevalier T.Thomas, is the first self-financing College to be affiliated to the
University of Madras. It is one of the six institutions and the only College
run by the Chevalier T.Thomas Educational Trust founded by Mr.T.Thomas.
Located in Sembium, the College is right opposite the well-known
landmark of Huzur Gardens which is a part of the Simpson Estate, and is
about two kilometers from the Perambur Railway Station and the
Perambur Bus Depot. The Perambur Flyover connects this part of Chennai
to other parts and the College is easily accessible both by bus and train.
Share-autos also ply the road between the Railway station and Moolakadai
Junction.
Tucked away inside St.Mary's Road, the beautiful campus is
protected from the hustle and bustle that surrounds it and is a haven of
peace. The plants in full bloom and the carefully nurtured crotens add to
the charm.
This exclusive college for women is presently managed by Hon.
Justice J.Kanakaraj (Retired Judge of the Madras High Court), Chairman of
the Trust and Mr. L.Palamalai, I.A.S. (Retd.), the Managing Trustee and
Correspondent.
The College believes in empowering women through its holistic
programmes and has completed 29 years of dedicated service in the cause
of higher education.

ADEPT (The Academy for Developing English and Personality
Traits) is an airconditioned language lab set up to teach Spoken English and
Soft Skills to UG and PG Students. The lab has 30 computers and one
teacher terminal. Clarity SNET Software provides the a platform for
interactive computer-aided learning.
The Language lab benefits all students, who are given periodic
training in language skills particularly in Spoken English. The UG and PG
students undergo intensive soft skill training under a certified soft skill
trainer. Research scholars have full access to the Language Lab.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Completed Application forms should be submitted to the college office
along with a print out of the result published on the internet for
provisional admission.
Students from Boards other than Tamil Nadu State Board and CBSE will
be admitted only if they produce the Eligibility Certificate from the
University of Madras.
Admission is subject to verification of mark certificates, issued by the
Director of Govt. Examinations. If marks certificates are found to be
bogus, the admission will be cancelled and criminal action taken against
the candidate.
The following documents must be submitted in the ORIGINAL at the time of
the interview :
1. Interview card.
2. +2 Mark Sheet (with three attested copies)
3. Transfer Certificate
4. Conduct Certificate from the Head of the institution in which the
candidate last studied.
Interview cards will be sent to the short listed candidates.

To empower women by providing the right academic atmosphere, the best
knowledge resources and the opportunity to develop knowledge related
and employability skills besides inculcating in them secularism,
humanitarianism and values rooted in our culture and tradition.
The College has an air conditioned, auditorium, an open-air
theatre and well-ventilated class rooms with fans and lights. The
Conference Hall can comfortably seat 100 students and is equipped with
OHP LCD projector, visualiser and other audio visual aids . The Reverse
Osmosis plant provides clean drinking water through water coolers.
The science labs provide excellent facilities. The airconditioned
BCA and computer labs are equipped to permit sixty students to work at a
time. The Maths lab is also equipped with 20 computers and is
airconditioned. The Physics and Chemistry laboratories are provided with
scientific instruments of high quality.
The library, which has more than 15,552 volumes of scholarly
works and reference material, subscribes to 34 periodicals, 22 academic
journals and 8 newspapers. The Open Access System makes the library
user friendly. The library is also equipped with OPAC (Online Public Access
Catalogue) and 10 systems with LAN and internet facility which are a boon
to staff and students alike. The multifunction printer/copier/scanner
machine is a help to all library users. The Library is an active member of the
UGC INFLIBNET N-list E-Resources Program, Ahmedabad. This enables
users to access 97,000 e-books and 6000 full text e-journals.

CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM
The University introduced the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System)
during the academic year 2008-2009. Under this system, in all UG courses, a
candidate must earn a minimum of 140 credits. PG students must earn a
minimum of 90 credits.

not permitted)

Part IV : 1.a. All students are expected to study Tamil. Those who have not
studied Tamil upto Std. XII and take a non Tamil language

EXAMINATION PATTERN
UG and PG : External - 75 marks
Internal - 25 marks
The College believes in discipline, commitment and hard work.
Students must be punctual and attend the assembly every day. Students
who come late will lose half a day’s attendance.
They must be regular to classes. The college insists on 90% attendance.
Students must involve themselves in academic and co-curricular
activities and do projects, present papers, participate in competitions,
organise programmes etc.
They must avoid using indecent, unparliamentary language. They are
encouraged to use English in the campus.
They must wear modest clothes.
Student must keep the campus and classes clean.
Cell phones are banned in the college campus. Written permission
should be obtained from the Principal, if parents want their children to
carry cell phones.
Students are discouraged from wearing gold ornaments or carrying
money and other valuables to college. College will not be responsible for
any loss of personal belongings.
Students are prohibited from indulging in ragging. A Black Box has been
provided in front of Principal’s room for complaints regarding ragging.

utmost importance and if a student absents herself for more than one set of tests, she may
have to leave the college
* If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authorities the concerned student will be

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL
Physical education is compulsory for all college students and training
is provided twice a week after class hours. Exemption can be claimed only on
medical grounds. Facilities are also offered to encourage students to take
part in various sports events and also intra and inter collegiate tournaments.
The college coaching students in Kho-Kho, Kabbadi, Hockey, Cricket, Football,
Volleyball, Throw ball, Handball, Badminton, Ball Badminton and Athletics.
Students interested in distinguishing themselves in sports must contact the
Physical Director within one week of joining college. We have indoor facilities
in Sports Annexe.
The Entrepreneurship Development cell run by the department,
conducts activities & Programmes to train and equip the students with
necessary life skills, so as to enable them to become either successful
entrepreneurs or the much sought after intrapreneurs in the job market.
Certificate courses on Cosmetology, Embroidery, Jewellery Designing and
Pidilite industry certified Art & Handicraft courses are conducted to enhance
the capacity of the students. More number of new courses like Tailoring,
Banking, Food Processing are in the pipeline for the forthcoming academic
year.
Training programmes & workhops in association with government
and other external agencies are organised periodically to nurture the innate
entrepreneurial talents of the students.
Aavin Parlour was inaugurated on 11th July 2013 by Mr. P. Tamil
selvan, M.A., M.B.A., DCM (Marketing, Aavin TCMPF LTD., Aavin Parlour is
functioning as a part of Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
It promotes the creation and growth of entrepreneurs provides training and
counselling to establish their own business.
To make the potential entrepreneurs know about the possible risks and
failures of the projects.

The College has two units of NSS. The NSS students are provided
training in community service and civic awareness . They are also expected to
take part in the week long annual camp organised to create awareness in
villages. Students can also join the Red Ribbon Club which creates awareness
on AIDS.
The Youth Red Cross is another service oriented organization. It
trains students to put society before self. The principles governing the Youth
Red Cross are promotion of health and voluntary service. Medical
Awareness Programmes are conducted regularly. Students are also given a
chance to serve society through crowd regulation at hospitals.
The Citizen's Consumer Club was established in the academic year
2008-2009 and was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Civil Supplies, Mr.
Rajaram. It aims at imparting awareness to students on their rights as
consumers. Members of Silk Mark, Agmark and similar quality assurance
bodies regularly visit the college and enlighten students.
CITIZEN CONSUMER CLUB
FINE ARTS
The Fine Arts Association aims at developing the talents of the
students through the Indian Music Club, Western Music Club, Debate club,
Indian Dance Club and the Western Dance Club. The College also provides
free training in Bharatanatyam and Veena.
Every year, two major cultural events, 'Kalakiran' and 'Chainika' are
held. These culturals are conducted as inter departmental and inter
collegiate events and provide an opportunity for networking, organising and
showcasing talents.
To promote secularism and develop religious tolerance and
harmony, festivals like Christmas, Onam, Pongal are celebrated every year.

ECO CLUB
COUNSELLING
The Eco Club aims at creating awareness on environment issues.
Every year students are taken on a field trip. The II year students have projects
dealing with plants as part of their curriculum. A herbal garden and kitchen
garden help students develop a love for plants.
Individual and group counselling are provided by an experienced and
qualified Counsellor. Workshops are arranged on different topics like stress
management, self esteem, confidence building and personality
development. Students can feel free to approach the counsellor, who is
available twice a week.
The placement activity in an institution is a reflection of the
participation of the institution in building the careers of its students. CTTE
College has set up a Placement Committee which looks after the placement
activities of its students throughout the year. While it provides guidance and
support through extensive networking with potential employers, the
students also have the responsibility of putting in focussed efforts to obtain
suitable placements.
CTTE College believes in creating opportunities for its students to
apply academic knowledge to real-life scenarios. All students are required to
take up the intensive training program provided by the Placement Cell.
Through these programs, students are made industry ready. Over the years
CTTE has gained extensive corporate support, with results that have been
mutually beneficial to both the student and the corporate. This is reflected in
the final placements when the best companies visit the campus.
Campus recruitments are also organised by the college with the
support of the University Students Advisory Bureau, University of Madras as
well as ICTACT of Tamil Nadu.

IAS ACADEMY
The CTTE IAS Academy trains eligible and willing women candidates
for entry into ALL INDIA CIVIL SERVICES (IAS & IPS) through competitive
Examinations conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission
UPSC. This has added a new dimension to the multifaceted & diversified
profile of our campus.
CTTE IAS Academy is the brain child of the Managing Trustee &
Correspondent of our institution, Thiru. L.Palamalai, IAS Retd.
This free training programme is specifically designed to cater to the
needs of candidates to empower them to meet the challenges of
Competitive Examinations. Enrolment in the academy is exclusively for
women graduates and undergraduate finalists from the college and general
public. Eminent and experienced faculty have been identified and recruited
into service. Classes are held during the weekends from 10 am to 4.30 pm.
The college Librarian is the Co-ordinator of the IAS Academy.
A special section in the library has been set apart for books,
magazines and other reference material for the benefit of the IAS trainees.

The Department has been engaged in fostering English Language
Skills in women students from diverse backgrounds, thus empowering them

The Objective of the Department is to contribute to the growth of

The Department of English came into being in 1985 along with the

The Department of Computer Applications was started in July 2008.
The sanctioned strength is fifty as allotted by the university of madras. The
department exposes students to the latest technical knowledge in the IT field
and arranges several guest lectures, seminars, exhibitions and conferences.
It conducts competitions which give enough opportunities to students keep
abreast of the ever growing IT field.
The department magazine 'PC Bytes' showcases the inherent talents of
the dedicated staff and enthusiastic students of the department. The
department offers a value added course on "Cloud infrastructure & Services"
through faculty who have international certification.

THE DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
Established in the year 1988, the Department of Computer Science
caters to the growing need for technologically trained professionals
worldwide.
It conducts conferences, exhibitions workshops and seminars to keep
students abreast of the latest development in the field of IT. Resource
persons from the academia as well as the industry are invited to address
students regularly. Trained and certified faculty offer Oracle Academy
Certification Course in Java Fundamentals and Java Programming as value
added courses.
The Department also provides opportunities for overall development of
its students by conducting subject related competitions and by encouraging
students to take part in intercollegiate competitions, seminars and
workshops.
The Department Magazine, INFOBAHN provides students with hands-

The Department of Commerce, established in the year 1985 hones the
professional skills of students. Its activities are intended to provide great
scope for contemporary and application-oriented learning. It fosters
interaction, creative thinking and cooperative learning. Students are
encouraged to develop marketing competitive skills to manage the inherent
risks in the field of marketing, banking insurance and income tax. The
department was upgraded to a postgraduate department in 1990 and
became a research department in 2012.
The curriculum of the course covers the fundamentals and basic
principles of all commerce related activities and environments. It exposes
the student to different business administration strategies and accounting
principles. Students are encouraged to make full use of the expertise gained
to build strong entrepreneurship skills keeping in mind the expectations of
the industry. They are also trained in the horizontal and vertical aspects of
company management.
Students can specialise after a Bachelors Degree and become Cost
Accountants or Chartered Accountants. Our students are well placed
through campus placements. However, the ED cell also encourages budding
entrepreneurs to seek new avenues by offering courses that cater to the
current requirements of the ever changing world of business.
As a special initiative, the department offers a certificate course on
'NET/SET exam to aspiring PG & M.Phil students.
