College Research Committee Terms of Reference
Terms of reference
The College Research Committee has the responsibility for promoting research excellence in the college and in providing the college research policy and co-ordination of research strategy to the College Leadership team for contribution of the College of BGL’s research goals. Research excellence is defined as a College environment with a strong research culture where staff share norms and values to engage in quality research, intellectual debate and extension of knowledge; to support the development of scale and focus in college research performance; to increase competitive external research income and raise the quality of research publication; to engage with stakeholders on their research and produce research with end-user impact; and to support Early Career Researchers and HDR research and training. In particular the College Research Committee supports the university’s goals in relation to research, including the increase by 2021 on gaining research income (HERDC 1 to 4) by two thirds and on increasing the percentage of articles in the top 10% of journals from about 33% to 45%. The committee also seeks through its activities to support staff being able to meet the college’s research performance expectations developed by the DVC(R)’s University Research Committee.
Membership (12)
Dean (Research) (Chair), Research Section Leaders, Research Centre Directors, Institute Director (if not already included on the Committee), ECR Representative, HDR Coordinator, Student HDR representative. Administrative support is from the research administrators of the College. A nominee is required to attend meetings when a member cannot attend. The committee may have a Deputy Chair.
The committee reports to the Dean (Research) who reports to the Vice President and Executive Dean for their Dean Research role component of their job.
Committee Activities: With the support of the College research administration team and within the envelope of the existing funds, the College Research Committee will:
