Director of Senior School - Update
Dear Families, Students and
Community Members,
As the year draws closer to an end
we have many achievements to
celebrate in the Senior School and
some new beginnings as well.
Our Year 12 VCE students have
now officially finished classes and
are busy revising and
consolidating for their final exams.
Our VCAL students are tying up
their community projects and
making final arrangements for
their study or apprenticeships. It
can be a somewhat difficult time,
as they are no longer driven by
their daily lesson schedule; they
are not
spending
time in
class with
peers with
whom they have been so close for
many years; they are not being
guided and supported on a daily
basis by the teachers they now
know so well. Yet, it is also an
exciting time; the start of the next
chapter in their lives; a time of
opportunity. On Tuesday 18
October, the entire College
community formally said farewell
to the Year 12s at their Final
Assembly – it was fantastic to see
so many parents, families and
friends there to
acknowledge their
achievements. They
further celebrated their
graduation with their
families and teachers at
the Valedictory Dinner,
held at Southern Golf
Club last Friday 21
October. Last week,
five VCAL students,
Jacob Ahmat, Mitchell
Stewart, Lochie Erwin,
Rhys Johnson Dicker
and Jaala Spithas were
acknowledged for their
nominations for various
Applied Learning
Awards including Applied Learning
Student of the Year, Learning and
Personal Development Student of
the Year, SBAT Student of the
Year and VET Student of the year.
They will each receive a certificate
celebrating their nominations and I
would like also to congratulate
them on their achievements.
Since taking over the role of
Director of Senior School in July, I
have been impressed by the
positive attitudes of the Senior
School students. The members of
the student leadership team have
been a delight to work with and
they have provided us with useful
feedback and ideas on which we
can build in the future. It is an
extremely exciting time at
Mordialloc College as we move to
the future with even higher
expectations and more aspirational
goals for all our students. I look
forward to working with the

student leadership team for 2017; as I do to
welcoming the new Year 10 cohort into the Senior
School.
As students revise and prepare for their upcoming
examinations, whether it be the final VCAA exams or
our internal Year 10 and 11 exams, they should
ensure they are doing the following:
devising a structured study planner that
incorporates regular breaks and realistic time
periods of study
ensuring they have access to a designated
quiet and uncluttered study space
printing off the study design or exam criteria
and creating their study notes based on
these dot points
when creating study notes, define concepts and
try to formulate original examples to help
understand the content better
working collaboratively where appropriate –
testing each other, discussing difficult concepts
completing as many practice exams and/or
exam-style questions as possible
seeking feedback from their teacher on how to
improve
