Implementation-sub Saharan Africa

• Africa 22% of all notified TB patients were tested for HIV in 2006.

• Five fold increase of HIV testing of TB patients in 11 African countries with 57% of the global burden over 3 years.

• Countries passed the Global plan target (51% by 2006).

• Implementation: Definite improvement in some areas, still far from targets, poor uptake in IPT which needs continued focus

• Monitoring and evaluation prospect of improving within reach and will be invaluable metric

• Visibility and cooperation among international bodies increasing, higher profile in HIV community

• Areas in need of focus: Infection control, intensified case finding, diagnostics, research funding, greater engagement of PEPFAR country implementers in WG
