What Are Accommodations?Accommodations are tools and/or academic or physical arrangements that help to ‘level the playing field’, providing students with an equal opportunity for success. They are based on information from assessments from a professional (such as a psychologist or medical doctor) that describe a student’s disability. Going to College is one of the best choices you can make. It’s an investment in yourself and your future.Plan your future – Plan your budgetWhen you enrol at Centennial you will want to learn and study, meet new friends, join clubs and get involved. You will also want to be free of financial worry and for this you need a plan. The cost of tuition, books, supplies, travel or living expenses can easily add up. There is help available to meet these costs.

At Student Financial Services, We Provide Information and Advice On:

• planning your finances

• applying for Student Loans

• accessing awards, scholarships, bursaries and other financial assistance.

How Much Will College Cost?Your expenses will vary depending on your circumstances. You can get a good idea of your own financial picture by creating a realistic list of your resources and expenses. Your list of resources should include sources of income such as:

• summer jobs

• savings

• contributions from parents, spouses or other family members

• money you earn working part-time while you’re in school.

Your List of Expenses Should Include:• college costs

• room and board

• transportation

• clothing, laundry, personal care and entertainment.

As a general guideline, single students living on their own can expect to spend about $12,000 per academic year on living expenses, tuition, books and supplies. Married students with dependants, for example, will have higher living costs than singles living at home and can expect to spend $17,000 or more per year.

If you find your estimated expenses are greater than your resources, your next step is to arrange the financial aid you need.

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) OSAP is a government-sponsored program designed to assist students in financing their education. OSAP funds are intended to supplement your own resources in meeting the costs of your education. In addition, the assistance you’re eligible for varies according to program length and whether you’re single, married or have dependents.

To apply for OSAP assistance, you have to be a fee-paying student attending Centennial full- or part-time in a Ministry approved post-secondary program of study. Part-time students would be eligible to apply for the Canada Part-time Loan Program.

Each plan has its own particular requirements and qualifications; the Ministry OSAP assessment process will match you with the plans that meet your needs.

You should apply early for financial aid to be sure funds are available when you start classes.

Additional information can be found on OSAP’s website at http://osap.gov.on.ca.

Last year, Centennial students received more than $4.6 million in scholarships, bursaries and awards including: Canada and Ontario Integrated Student LoansThe Ontario Student Assistance program (OSAP) includes Canada-Ontario Integrated Student Loans and the following ‘supplementary programs’ to assist students to financially support their post-secondary study.

Eligibility is automatically calculated at the Ministry when your OSAP application is processed.

Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent DisabilitiesQualifying students with permanent disabilities and demonstrating high financial need will automatically be considered by the Ministry on behalf of the Government of Canada for grant funding of $2,000 per year.

Canada Student Grant for Persons from Low-Income FamiliesQualifying students from low income families demonstrating high financial need will automatically be considered by the Ministry on behalf of the Government of Canada for grant funding up to a maximum of $250.00 per month of academic study.
