“Land Issues in the Age of Globalisation”

Announcing the 2012 Intensive Programme of the

Coimbra Group Development Master Initiative (CGDMI)

Szeged and Balaton Uppland National Park, HungaryAugust 19 – 31, 2012

The organisers of the 2nd CGDMI Intensive Programme invite staff and students from the partner universities to register for the 2012 programme on Land Issues in the Age of Globalisation. Especially enrolled students from developing countries are invited to participate. The Intensive Programme will be held in Szeged and in the Balaton Area in Hungary and includes 11 days of first class lectures, field work and group work, after preparatory reading and web-supported distance workshops.

Land reform and related issues of land are a vital aspect of transition and development processes. Land distribution, ownership, and land use patterns shape options for progress of the poor and for the sustainable future of local and national communities. Land-related issues are also most topical in global politics today; think of rising food prices, limits of natural resources, of bio-fuel production, commercialisation of agriculture, and of massive land acquisitions in less-developed countries by investment companies today. The Intensive Programme will analyse these issues from the perspectives of various academic disciplines and will be guided by professors from all over Eu-rope. The Hungarian transition experience will be studied in detail, and will be compared with transformations and struggles over land in a range of developing countries. Please find attached the IP Outline and the IP draft programme.

The Intensive Programme is facilitated by the European Union Lifelong Learning Programme and is therefore almost free of costs to students. Students of the participating Coimbra Group universities (Padova, Leuven, Louvain, Salamanca, Groningen, Siena, Bologna) as well as of the universities of Craiova, Szeged and Szent Istvàn/Godollo can register by sending a motivation letter to the CGDMI contact person in your university. Students are obliged to follow the pre-IP reading and workshop process and to participate in the full programme.Staff of CGDMI partner universities is invited to contribute to the lecturing team.
