Coffs Harbour Public School
Mrs Leonie Buehler — School Principal
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work and we pay our respects to the Elders both past and present
4th September 2019
Dear Parents and Carers,
Coffs Harbour Public School values the diversity of
all its cultures! We celebrate this each year on
Multicultural Day, recognising the various ethnicities
within the school. Today we invited our school
community to join the festivities as the students
sang, danced, and told stories at our Multicultural
Day celebrations. We valued the support of our
parent community in assisting with the bread stall
again. Thank you so much. What a wonderful day
for our school.
Here are some fun facts about our school:
Did you know that 33% of our students were born in
another country? Of our 466 students, 310 students
were born in Australia; 56 students from Iraq; 13
students from Syria; 12 students from Myanmar; 11
students from Congo; 9 from Kenya; 6 students
from Malaysia; 6 students from Thailand; 5 from
Afghanistan; 4 from Iran; 3 students from Ethiopia,
India and Malawi and the remaining 81 students
from all around the world.
Did you know that in total our students come from
31 different countries?
Did you know that our student population is 18%
Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander
45% of our students have a language background
other than English
A huge than you to Mrs O’Donnell, Ms Morgan, Mr
Brady and Mr Lachlan for taking the Stage 2
students on a fun filled excursion to the Great
Aussie Bush Camp. What a fantastic experience for
the children to have.
Last week we celebrated SASS week. On behalf of
the whole school community I would like to thank
our SAS staff ( office staff, SLSOs and GAs) who
do an extraordinary job in our school. We often talk
about being a great team and the effort, support,
care, professionalism and work ethic displayed by
our SAS staff enables our school to be the best we
can be. Thank you.
Yesterday we had an evacuation drill. This drill was
held at lunchtime. Congratulations to all staff and
students. We were able to make it out of the school
grounds and onto the oval in 8 minutes. An
outstanding effort!
As our P and C has folded, I would like to hold a
parent chat with any interested families. This will be
from 3.15pm-3.45pm on the 23rd September. The
location will be advised. I look forward to giving an
update on what’s happening at school.
The end of each term gets busier, so please have a
look at the calendar of events. We have a lot
coming up.
Have a great fortnight,
Leonie

Is it really Week 7? 3 weeks till holidays?
Multicultural Day was celebrated today. Thanks to parents who dressed up their children in traditional
cultural clothing or arranged for them to wear blue. How good did our children look!
The stalls were fun and children could eat ice cream or items from our bread and cake stall. There were
competitions, nails being painted and items they could purchase. We were also once again amazed with
the talent some of our children have and their ability to speak up for themselves is inspiring.
I wanted to extend appreciation for the parents who contributed today at the bread and cake stall and last
week for the Father’s Day stall. Volunteers are needed to help events run smoothly and many of you are
generous with your time and resources. Thank you again.
Have a look at the Book Fair photos here in the newsletter. We love that parents attend and enjoy their
children’s efforts to pick a book and dress up.
See you around
