There are four specific things that you need to do in order to roast coffee beans at your house. Although you can use a variety of different coffee roasters, here are the basic steps. First, you will need to

heat the green coffee beans to about 500°F. This can vary 30° in either direction depending upon what you are trying to achieve.



Next, you need to agitate the beans by moving them around occasionally to prevent uneven roasting. If you don't do this, it is possible to scorch your beans excessively, causing them to be burned.



Third, since there is going to be some amount of smoke during the roasting process, you need to be able to aerate the area, effectively removing the smoke from the interior of your home.



Finally, once the roasting process is done, you need to let them cool. This should be done quite rapidly. By placing those in a metal colander and shaking those until they are cooled down, you can complete the process of roasting your coffee beans.
