IMAGE Uses direct mode of address to grab the audience’s attention,

which builds a relationship between the reader and the featured actor (uses and gratification theory).

The actor featured is taking up most of the space on the poster to suggest he is the protagonist of the story.

The filter/lighting in the image creates a certain cinematic, which would attract people who enjoy films (target audience).

Close up shot to emphasize importance/key role of the main character.

The facial expression and action (phone ie; the signifier) going on in the image creates hermeneutic code (Barthes).

The fact that the actor featured is a young adult could make a large part of the audience want to see the short film as they could relate to him.

TEXT TITLE & OTHER INFORMATION

The font used is simple, bold and minimalist which is a commonly used font in these types of short films (which might attract an already established audience).

The large size of the title attracts the attention and the fact that it takes up a large surface of the poster emphasises it even more.

The way the title is shown multiple times creates a semantic code which also gives the audience an incite and clarifies what the short film is about (ie: a person who suffers from a speech impediment).

Names of the two main actors are placed at the top of both hand corners of the page in a different colours as they are part of the focus of the film.

The production credits have been placed in a smaller font at the bottom of the poster as its not key information the audience would be looking for.

COLOUR

The colour palette in this poster stays very soft and simple Shades of pastel pink, grey and light blue are used across the

poster. These colours are often used in indie and art films as a filter,

which therefore would attract the audience of other short films. Even though these colours have connotations of innocence,

femininity and youth, they aren’t overly powerful to the point where a certain gender feels targeted, which is ideal due to the broad and diverse target audience of this short film.
