“Fashion is made to become

unfashionable.”

“Fashion is not something that exists

in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what

is happening.”

• In 1913. Coco Chanel designs were an invention of a whole new style for outdoor living. Her boutique in Deauville, France, offered hats, shortly followed by jackets, jumpers and the “sailor blouse”. That became the wartime garment of all well-dressed ladies.

• In 1916 she adopted another innovation: jersey, the material usually associated with men's undergarments. Her three-quarter-length overcoat made of jersey, free from ornament and loosely fitting, was an instant success.

• The long-sleeved black dress, which was initially made for day in wool, and for evening in crepe, satin or velvet, shook up the world of fashion. Later appeared the other variations of a little black dress: short, sleeveless, in a pleated black chiffon, in black lace...

• In 1926 American Vogue named Coco Chanel black dress “a Ford”, meaning it’s simplicity and it's potential for an enormous and long-lasting success.

• The classic Chanel suit has "boxy" lines. • The typical suit also has braided trim and a slim

skirt lined with a gold link chain. • The buttons either resemble coins or are gold with

the double "cc" logo displayed amid them. • There is always a ribbon sewed in the waist of the

skirt to prevent the blouse from slipping and the zipper is placed on the side of the skirt to enable comfort.

• In a sense, wearing a Chanel suit is like wearing a customized ornate costume, made to fit so that when the wearer moves, the suit still maintains perfect grace and elegance
