It’s the year 1856. Twenty year old A.W. Krasnapolsky arrives in Amsterdam. With a tailoring diploma in his pocket, the young clothier secures a job

at ‘Winkel van Sinkel’ following in the footsteps of his sewing father and grandfather. After a hard day’s work, Krasnapolsky often finds relaxation in one of the coffee

houses around Dam Square. In 1866, the aspiring entrepreneur takes over a coffee house that would become the foundation of the legacy we know nowadays.

At Bar The Tailor, we pay tribute to the old craft of our founder with tailor-made and bespoke cocktails. The art of tailoring is

stitched inseparably together with our menu and the decor.

Welcome to Bar The Tailor within the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. The first dedicated Lobby was built in 1952. This room has been moved and remodeled on several occasions but has always served as an introduction to the hotel. We invite you to begin your imbibing here. The Lobby is filled with introductory style drinks, light and refreshing and lower in A.B.V, ready to activate your palate for the evening ahead. Proost.

Come one, come all. Call your friends and head on over for playful tipple. Mr. Krasnapolsky first introduced billiard tables in 1866. Over time this room developed from communal playing to a competition venue before being repurposed in 1961. Here we serve Punch and other recreational concoctions which are associated with this category. Both sharing and single serve, grab your friends and loved ones, relax and enjoy.

In this room we celebrate summer all year round. Built in 1880 from marble, iron and glass, the room was originally an extension of the restaurant as the hotel did not yet exist. It was decorated with tropical plants, flowers and trees and in the evening was lit with 4000 gas burners. Here you will find fruity, sweeter drinks one could imagine sipping during the everlasting summer.

When liberation came after WWII all things American were very much in vogue. Naturally, this extended to drinking habits so it’s only natural that at that time you could find a classic American Bar. Opening in 1952 the bar sold mixed drinks and bottled beers only. Here we offer our own Tailor take on classics.
