1998 Top European expert in radar absorbent material joined Credowan’s design team and Load Division created.

1999 Credowan joined internationally recognised microwave technology group Chelton, part of high-technology aerospace company Cobham plc.

1999 Credowan made strategic acquisition of a rotary joint business from UK company EEV.

2008 All Cobham-owned business worldwide began to adopt new Cobham brand as part of Cobham’s programme to deliver unified brand identity to the global market.

The most important thing Cobham builds is trust.

We have four divisions: Avionics and

Surveillance, Defence Systems, Mission

Systems and Aviation Services.

Quality > capability > trustOur two waveguide business units in Europe

have developed a comprehensive range

World-class waveguide assembliesCobham Microwave is a world-class designer and manufacturer of high-quality rigid and flexible

waveguide assemblies and other passive waveguide components covering UHF to Millimetric

frequencies.

Our wide engineering and manufacturing expertise allows us to offer:

individual components to customers’ specifications

packaged and tested sub-system level assemblies ready for higher-level integration

waveguide products silver-plated using our in-house facility

optimised electrical performance across your chosen frequency band

Our proven process, craftsmanship and attention to cleanliness give each waveguide

exceptional corrosion resistance to handle extreme environments.

Waveguide sizes available span from WR975 (WG4) to WG28 (WG23) in rectangular and

WRD200 to WRD180 in double ridge.

Also available are waveguides in circular, elliptical, square and over-moded or multimodal

aspect ratio options.

Choose the best solution for you

Rigid Waveguide

Rigid waveguide components are offered as

standard in custom-specific designs. Bending is

available for both ‘E’ and ‘H’ and twists in either

clockwise or anticlockwise orientation.

Available in a full range of materials such as

copper, brass, aluminium and stainless steel.

Flexible Waveguide

Flexible waveguides have a wide range of

uses are ideal for taking up tolerances caused

by misalignment and in areas subject to

temperature variation, shock and vibration.

Manufactured from copper alloy or a brass

core which can then be silver plated and

painted or silicon jacketed; they are available

in a wide range of sizes. Ask us for details!

Seamless construction provides flexible (non-

twist) functionality. It offers higher power

handling and better electrical performance

over standard flexible/twistable waveguide.

The seamless core design makes it inherently

pressure-tight and gives excellent PIM

performance, especially when used with our

range of PIM free flanges.

If a permanent twist or bend is required, we

can form flexible or twistable waveguide into

a specific shape during the manufacturing

process, reducing the stress on the waveguide.

Rigid/Flexible Hybrid Waveguide

Reduce cost and save valuable integration time

– with the growing trend of reducing available

space for waveguide runs, plus the need to

minimize flange joints, we have combined rigid

and flexible elements into one single assembly.

We have a wide range of flange options for all

of our rigid and flexible waveguide products.

Industrial Scientific and Medical Trust. Talent. Technology.

Cobham Microwave is in a unique position to

offer services and products for the increasingly

cost effective use of RF and Microwave

technology for use in Industrial processing

systems utilising the ISM frequency bands.

These processes use much less energy far

more efficiently than current standards

where the carbon footprint is under increased

scrutiny.

Such as:

Microwave heating

Industrial processing of materials

Pyrolysis of carbon based materials

Drying processes

Food processing and batch cooking

Pasteurisation

The larger waveguide sizes required for high

power distribution at lower frequencies

require a specialist approach not found with

“fabrication only” vendors. High power

and high vacuum components with an

associated surface finish, bends, twists,

transitions and couplers need to be designed

and engineered for optimum propagation and

low losses.

Scientific and Medical uses Our recent program with a well known UK

academic institution in partnership with an

expert recycling company has resulted in a

high speed pyrolysis plant which is now ready

for industrial scale production. The throughput

of raw material to the finished products is

extremely fast and was previously unheard of.

Cobham Microwave designed and developed

the Microwave Generator, waveguides and

control software to enable this project to

become a reality..

Attention to detail

Transitions

Waveguide to Coaxial

Waveguide to Waveguide

Coaxial Transitions are available in all

waveguide sizes and can be supplied as either

end-launch or right-angle coaxial connections.

Coaxial connection options: N-type, SMA,

2.9mm, TNC, 7/16” or 2.4mm.

Waveguide to waveguide transitions are

available for size reduction or shape changing;

as stepped or in taper form.

We offer these in full band or electrically

optimised for your specific frequency

requirements.

Pressure-tight, hermetically-sealed, ultra high

vacuum and high power options are also

available.

Couplers

Loop Coupler

Broadwall Coupler

Sidewall Coupler

Cross Coupler

Cobham Microwave offers a complete range

of couplers from compact Loop couplers.

Available as multiple port devices with a range

of coupling values.

Power Dividers/Combiners

Cobham Microwave offers a wide range of

power dividers/combiners, using a variety of RF

technologies including the magic tee.

Filters

All our filters are made to specific

requirements. We have a wealth of experience

in the design and manufacture of a wide range

of high-performance absorptive and reflective

filters or multiplexers in waveguide or coaxial

standard interfaces

Tuners

Our series of waveguide tuners have been

designed for precision impedance matching

in high power ISM applications. Unlike many

other designs currently on the market, we have

integrated a reactive choke feature to each

tuning rod, making these tuners ideal for use in

EMI-sensitive environments.

Loads

Our experience in the design and manufacture of high-performance

loads and our ability to accurately predict thermal conditions has led us

to develop a number of high power air-cooled and water-cooled high

power devices.

Loads – Air Cooled

We offer a vast range of air-cooled loads that range in power from a few

watts up to 10kW (mean) and up to 70MW (peak). Our experience in this

specialist area has allowed us to develop many new products including

our coil load that allows high powers to be terminated without the

need for liquid cooling. Many of our loads can be easily adapted for

forced air cooling.

Loads – Liquid cooled

These are available in two technologies.

Our Liquid Dielectric range offer excellent power-handling

capabilities up to 50kW (mean).

Our Jacketed range runs at a much lower temperature than a similar

rated air cooled load, is smaller and is ideal for terminating power up

to 10kW (mean).

These loads are also suitable for alternative coolants.

Loads – Inserts and absorber material

The proprietary materials used in these designs are generally based

upon silicon carbide, mica, epoxy resin or silicon rubber.

Your choice:

We have many existing designs for broadband and narrowband

applications.

We also offer custom designs that meet your specific frequency

requirements and space envelope.

Our mould tooling for our low-cost silicon rubber-based options

is generally very economical and the design can be adapted to

incorporate a number of fixing options.

Anechoic hoods and chambers

Cobham Microwave has considerable experience in designing and

fabricating custom absorber hoods, anechoic chambers and TEM cells.

Typical applications include: missile head testing, EW transmitter testing,

antenna characterization and MW telemetry link testing. We are able to

incorporate RX sampling ports, signal injection ports, mode stirrers and

safety interlocks.
