The Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law (the “Coalition”) is a non-profit membership

association that brings together law firms, government entities, and companies of all

sizes for the purpose of advancing the recruitment, retention and promotion of women

lawyers. The Coalition was founded in Chicago in 2008 by a group of women lawyers

intent on joining forces with others to benefit the collective whole. The Coalition of

Women’s Initiatives in Law - New York, Inc. (the “New York Chapter”) is a New York

non-profit corporation founded in 2016 and the first expansion chapter of the Coalition.

In 2019, the Coalition launched another expansion chapter in Washington, DC. Today,

the Coalition has more than 120 law firms and companies as members across its three

chapters.

The New York Chapter organizes regular events that provide valuable networking

opportunities to its members, many of which offer CLE credit. The New York Chapter is

also an excellent platform for attorneys to obtain speaking engagements and leadership

opportunities, such as serving on a governing board and chairing a committee. Being

a member of the New York Chapter also provides access to webinar programming

provided by the Coalition on a national level.

The Coalition aims to cultivate career advancement and professional development,

promote dialogue, provide a support-network among members and help address the

many issues facing women lawyers and women’s initiatives today. The Coalition is a place

for all women lawyers, from different practice areas, different size law firms, different size

companies, different roles within the government and different levels of experience, to

join forces to advance each and all of its members’ careers. This inclusive nature of the

Coalition makes it a unique and significant resource for all of its members.
