Coal combustion testing. We test real flow of coal to the burners in power plants. Measurements can be used to adjust burning to reduce emissions, damage to boiler parts, and to increase the efficiency of fuel use.

MEASURING PRIMARY AIR FLOW 1

EQUIPMENT

We use state of the art Dirty Air Pitot with a hand held recorder that averages readings providing very accurate measurement.

PROCEDURE

If the ports are not installed, we provide the installation using 1½”, full port valves. These ports can be used for air flow as well as Coal flow measurements.

Balancing air flows to all burners in a Coal Fired Boiler is the best way to improve combustion with minimum investment.

MEASURING COAL FLOW 2

Is the Manufacturer of the PFS-A-SL AUTOMATIC PULVERIZED FUEL SAMPLER. This PLC controlled testing assures isokinetic flow testing with in-site weighing and automatic coal flow calculation .

A two man team is used to obtain the coal samples. One supervises the probe, while the other enters data on the PLC and runs the test.

With a multiple nozzle sampler and a computer controlled electric actuator we provide testing according to ISO-9931.

VERIFYING SECONDARY AIR FLOWS 3

PROCEDURE

This highly accurate anemometer provides velocity readings with an accuracy of ± 3 % which allows for very clear determination of flow variations around the burner secondary air register. By graphing the velocities at 24 points it becomes clear where disturbances are present.

EXPERIENCE

We have provided burner secondary air flow measurements, finding flow distortions caused by uneven air distribution within the air box.

We design manufacture and install the necessary test ports to get a complete traverse grid across the duct. This multiple point sampling allows for a very precise measurement of the emissions generated by each burner.

RESULTS

The graph to the left represents the variations of NOx across a duct with a nine point sampling grid. It is very evident that one point sampling would NOT have being representative of the NOx levels present in most of the duct.

EQUIPMENT

We use the Testo 350-S which allows simultaneous in-site monitory of NOx, CO, O2 and CO2 .
