Christian Faith Exploration Program

Distinctives of Christian life at SPU

1. Faculty & staff share a common Christian commitment while embracing diverse denominational traditions

2. Students need not affirm a Christian faith, though while at SPU, all students will explore the Christian Faith through curricular and co-curricular programs

3. Salvation by grace through faith in Christ

4. The transforming work of the Holy Spirit to enable us to live in obedience and holiness

5. The call to be a grace-filled community

6. A commitment to engagement with the poor

What’s ‘Free’ about Free Methodists?1. Freedom of Slaves2. Freedom of Pews3. Freedom of Women to

exercise all gifts for ministry

What is CFE?SPU is committed to provide students with opportunities to explore the meaning of the Christian faith and its implications for life, academic disciplines and society --- Christian Faith Exploration.

CFE is a required co-curricular program integrating discussion, reflection and community service that each student self-designs.

Giving all students the opportunity to

explore the meaning and

implications of the Christian faith for

life, society and the world

What’s the Requirement? Each quarter, full-time undergraduate students complete:

5 hours of community service

2 Campus-wide Community Convocations or Lectures

8 other campus-based CFE events

Students with special circumstances can petition each quarter for a reduction in the requirement.

With over 50 activities weekly to choose from, students self-design their own Faith Exploration program.

By the end of the quarter, each student self-reports on the activities in which they participated.

General reflections on the quarter’s activitiesSpecific observations on two Community Events

These reflections are reviewed by the OCM staff, and registration for courses depends on successfully fulfilling the requirement
