The Canadian Red Cross knows disasters can strike at any time. We advise Albertans to be prepared for at least 72 hours and to expect the unexpected. When it comes to a being prepared for a disaster, all Albertans should:

COMMUNITY EDUCATIONRed Cross offers Personal Disaster Preparedness education and group information sessions throughout your community. We offer a variety of sessions to meet your needs.

The Red Cross Personal Disaster Assistance Team (PDAT) ensures the basic needs of families and individuals affected by a personal disaster are met for the first 72 hours after a disaster. These services include:

• Emergency Food• Emergency Clothing• Emergency Lodging• Personal Services

Typical personal disasters include: Fire, Flood, Building Evacuations

The Red Cross Emergency Response Team (ERT) provides assistance to individuals when a disaster affects a large amount of people and/or requires extended delivery of services. These services include:

• Reception and Information• Family Reunification• Emergency Food• Emergency Clothing• Emergency Lodging• Personal Services

Typical Emergency Response Team disasters include: Multiple Home or Apartment Fires, Emergency Evacuation, Natural Disasters (Forest Fires, Tornados, Hurricanes, Widespread Flooding)
